  1. I'm trying to convert all my home movies to DVDR. I have an old video8 sharp camcorder and a brand new panasonic minidv that allows for analog pass through. I play the home movies from the sharp camcorder to the panasonic then capture with windv. Video is fine but I only get the left audio channel during pass through when it plays on the puter. On the otherhand, if I take my recent home movies I made with my new panasonic, capture normally (no pass through) with windv it captures video and audio perfectly. Sharp to panasonic uses the white audio plug and yellow monitor plug. Panasonic to puter uses firewire cable. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

    windv AVI file created info:
    PCM Audio
    1024 kb/s (512/ch, stereo) 32000 Hz

    Thanks,

  2. It sounds like the Sharp camcorder only outputs mono, there should be a white & red RCA plug for audio, buy a mono to stereo splitter. You can use Audacity to convert mono WAV to stereo.

  3. I had a similar question - see the following thread:

I tried the RCA Y-Cable last night and it seems to be working fine thus far.

  4. You may also want to check to see if you can set your DV camcorder to output 16-bit audio. Then you should see an audio sampling rate of 48000 Hz which is the correct rate for the DVD standard.

I had some trouble with my standalone DVD player when I burned DVDs made with 12-bit audio (no sound at all).

Yellow and White means Mono Audio. You can convert Mono to stereo (well, not true stereo, but L+R that you need) with VDUB or about any audio app. Radio Shack has Y-adapters to give you inputs for L and R.
