Ripped DVD to my HD using DVD Decrypter 3.1.6.0. Opened up DVD Shrink and located the .IFO file but DVDShrink said it didn't contain information about my DVD. PowerDVD also refuses to play the movie when you point it to that file.
I would assume that this means that .IFO file is corrupt, and I have started using the in-built DVD ripper in DVD Shrink.
My question is whether there is any way to rescue the DVDs I have already ripped or will I have to do it all again?

Well, I would re-rip the IFO files only with DVD Decrypter. Don't select the main movie or all files, just select the IFO files manually. It's fast and reliable.
On the other hand, you can copy the equivalent .BUP file over the .IFO file. They should have the same contents (as .BUP stands for Backup)The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
there should also be a .bup file of the same name ...ie: if its VIDEO_TS.IFO find the VIDEO_TS.BUP ... if its VTS_01.IFO then find the VTS_01.BUP etc ..... now make a copy of the .BUP file that matches the corrupt .IFO then rename it to .IFO and replace the corrupt .IFO with the new one that you just created and it should solve the problem as the .BUP file is just a backup of the .IFO

You can use IFOedit to remake the IFO and BUP files for each VOB set and that should fix your problem.
All you have to do is:
delete the IFO and BUP files that you ripped.
Open IFOedit and select the vob in the first set. Get VTS sectors and Region free it, then save.
Either close or start a new IFOedit session. And repeat the process for the remaining sets.
What I mean by sets is your VOB files will be named.
VTS_01_1.VOB -> the "01" means that it is in the 1st file set, the "1" part means that it is chapter 1 of that file set.
You will need to create IFO files for each file set. So
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB
etc
are all different file sets (file sets are probably not the correct terminology) and you have to make new IFO's for each set.
NOW....it may just be one IFO that is screwed up, so I would recreate the IFO for the main movie files first and see if that fixes your problem...hopefully it does but if not the process is not hard, just repititive.
I've never had to do all the IFO's before, it's usually just the main one that has the issue.[/code] -
I just got a dvd-r with a bad bup file. I'll give it a try and see if it works.

i would assume you did not rip the FULL dvd the first time; DVD Shrink requires it unless you do an IFOEdit workaround.
put the dvd in drive again, use Decrypter in MAIN MOVIE mode once again, let it select the files, THEN under one of the menus click INVERT SELECTION...then rip those files and add to existing ones, start Shrink. good luck.
