  1. Hi,

I've had problems capturing anything via my Canopus ADVC100, and I knew it was none of the hardware or cables.

I decided to rebuild my PC - and finally I got some image, but no audio and the image was very 'blocky' - anyone know why this may be? Its fine when it comes straight from my DV Camera.

Thats the first problem..... secondly..... I was told the latest DirectX (9.0b) may be needed, I installed this, and there was no video in the preview window, just black!!!

Is there a fix for this?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Computer specs look OK as far as I can tell. What software are you using to capture? have you tried the ADVC-100 on another machine? Give us as much detail as you possible can, so that someone can answer properly.

  3. Hi,

The ADVC100 works fine (as do all the cables)..... I took it back to suppliers, and they tested it, I have tried it on 2 Apple Mac's & I have also used it to convert between TV & DV Camera.

Before i reinstalled my system (currently W2K & SP3), I always got a black screen when I should be previewing my footage..... I have Adobe Premier 6.0 & have also tested it with WinDV.... same in both.

Since the reinstall I could see my footage, although it was blocky and lacking audio!! Any reasons for this? As I said, it is a perfect image when i connect a DV camera to the fire-wire card, but not when the ADVC100 is connected!

Would a codec be needed to see the footage after its gone through the ADVC100?

After installing Direct X 9.0b, I got the black screen again

Anyone else know how to solve these problems? Ignoring DirectX9 isnt really an option, as it will eventually probably be needed for another application.

    Hmmmmmm.....

I am guessing here, but maybe try downloading the Canopus and or the Mainconcept DV codec may work. I dont think it is DirectX 9 that is causing the problem, because I have it with Win2K Pro SP3.

Unless someone else can pinpoint your specific challenge, this may be a trial and error thing. God knows, I have gone that route many times.

  6. Hi,

I tried installing the codecs, but nothing changed.

It was working ok'ish (I think the codecs would solve the blocky image), but I tested it before and after installing driectx 9.0b, and now i just get a black screen - no image or sound!!!

So it seems to be a problem between directx 9.0b and the advc-100

Anyone got any suggestions on a fix?

Or is my only solution to re-install again, and not install directx-9.0b??

    Thanks for any help

This might be a shot in the dark, but the culprit may be your Firewire card. It may be that somehow it is just not synching with the ADVC. As have been reported not all firewire cards are the same. Some work with any device connected and some are very picky.

Maybe you should check the make and model of your firewire card and check with the manufacturer for any known issues with devices. maybe do the same with Canopus to see if any issues with certain FW cards.

  8. Hi,

    Thanks for the message!

I dont think it would be my fire-wire card, as I was able to capture footage using the card and the ADVC-100, prior to installing DirectX 9.0b

The footage was a bit blocky, which Canopus have told me would be because I didnt have their codec installed at the time.

However, as soon as DirectX 9.0b was installed, I stopped being able to view/capture any footage. I have read other posts where people have experienced the same problems... but no solution as yet!
