I don't know what happened but I now cannot put my cpu into standby mode. When I go to Start,Turn off computer, and then my three choices come up to restart, turn off, or standby, the standby button is greyed out. Any ideas on how to enable standby again? I am running windows xp.

Does your computer support a hibernation mode? Not all computers support that, especially desktops. I believe that Windows XP normally has the standby option available by default if the computer has the proper equipment and is configured in the BIOS.

XP disables my Standby mode when the machine (on the previous boot) shows signs of instability.

can't help ya there....sorry but it sounds like your BIOS doesn't have that option. Try going to the MB manufactuer to see if it's compatible and if there's any BIOS updates
