  1. God!! somebody please help me as I have been spending the last 2 weeks trying to convert this type of file( divxmpg4 V3 )to vcd.

I download most films from Kazaa in this format and I have also purchased a program called VCD Maker which is supposed to convert all files considering u have the right codecs so here we we go with my problem.

I used avicodec to to tell me which codecs I needed which it then took me to nimo I down loaded the beta 8 pack which when installed did convert 3 of the above files so I was over the moon, problem was I couldnt use my real or windows media player for anything due to something like the morgan stream switcher so i uninstalled the 8 pack an installed the 9 pack which now i can play things in windows etc but when converting my pictures upside down and bloody fantastic I have no audio!! so I uninstalled the the 9 pack and installed the light pack and the story go's on and on untill I had tryed every version of nimo and I still dont get any audio when converted i'm on the verge of hanging myself so feel free if someone would like to do it for me!!!! Can someone just tell me what codecs I need or how to convert this type of file to vcd ...oh yes and the imortant part..... the Audio is just a simple MPEG layer 3

Codec packs are evil. Remove it. Get the latest - single - codec you need.

    Try divx 5.1 from divx.com

In future - don't even mention the "K" word.

    :c) Good luck.

No, I don't work with those kinds of files.

If I did I'd try a search right on this page for "no audio". See where that leads to.

Like I said before - good luck. :c)

As well as stay clear of codec packs (they wreak almost irreversible havoc with your system), also stay clear of "one click" solutions for AVI to VCD/SVCD/DVD. As noone knows what goes on inside these apps, it's impossible to tell where things go wrong. Try some methods described under AVI to VCD under CONVERT left.
Also, AVI's "found" on KaZaA (and other p2p networks) are notoriously bad, requiring a lot of cleanup before encoding can even begin.

buy them at the video store would be a good start -- or at least rent them each time you want to watch one ..

Reliable movies are found at video stores, on line and "live". This site does not support nor know anything about illegal copies of copyrighted material.
What codecs you need is determined by what file you try to view. GSpot is a great app finding out what codec a particular file needs.

  9. Hi

Why are codec packs so "evil", I've been using them for whatching videos amd I've not really had any problems.

I did once have to selectively install once as some of the codecs crashed WMP8
