i had used Vdub(mod) for a while now....i just noticed soething wierd now when i try to convert files....
i recently put in win2000 as my new OS and i got the recent vdubmod and tried to compress an mpg to a divx file.... and if im not mistaken when compressing to a divx the file is supposed to get SMALLER, because ive noticed that it will shrink at least 2 times the original file size.....
well ive been trying to convert to divx but for some reason the files are getting BIGGER..ive tried normal vdub and the mod versions and same thing..
can someone explain what i should do??? this has never happened before, ad i follow all the steps ive always done to compress, and to make sure i even followed some of the hot to guides on here

mpg to a divx file.... and if im not mistaken when compressing to a divx the file is supposed to get SMALLER, because ive noticed that it will shrink at least 2 times the original file size.....There's no place like 127.0.0.1
The Rogue Pixel: Pixels are like elephants. Every once in a while one of them will go nuts. -
ive used all the same setting each and everytime...i dont see how this mpg is different from any other file i have converted....
i converted monsters of rock vid which was about 900Mgs and with divx it came to about 500 or so.... and for every other mpg ive converted. i have downloaded every mpg i have(mostly bootleg concerts).... i have never made them myself...
the other file si had i cant remember the bitrates etc but this file has this (according to vdub)
352x240 29.970fps
avg bitrate 719kbps(88Kb/s)
and this vdub(1.5.4.1) for some reason only reads part of the file like 30 se onds of it -
I have a vdub problem too. I can't load Xvid format files into it. If anyone could tell me the codec that they use that lets them load into vdub it would help me a bunch. I use Nic's/ffdshow and vdub still can't find a decompressor? Does Nic's work or do I need to change a setting for it to recognize it or what? Thanks.

ive loaded several xvid files with no problem....
i use vdub to compress the files to make them smaller os i can burn them to backup cd...... alot of the shows i get are dvdrips(or they say) and are huge files, like 900MB or so and id rather not spilt them into 2 files and use 2 discs....
like i posted b4. i had always used vdub to "shrink" the files into divx, but now for some reason they only get bigger... -

I would rather not use a codec pack, so if anyone could name a specific codec that works for you that would be great.

have you tried running Gspot on it to find out what codec it was encoded with?
once you know, you should be able to find that specific codec and install it.- housepig

Yes, I have. It finds the codec as Xvid (as I said) and it says I have 2 compatible codecs (as I also said) ffdshow and a Xvid Mpeg 4 decoder which I assume is the NIC codec. The test render works. Xvid plays on my system I just can't get Vdub to load the file, I get that decompressor error. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's a corrupt MPEG. Run MPEGfix on it.
The XviD issue is the 4cc header. Change it to DivX and it will work fine. You can also install a good version of the XviD codec, since 85% of what's out there is pure crap (as in nearly 2 years old crap). To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -

hope this wont be considered bad or whatnot, but i ripped this VHS tape, and it was about 800MB+ and when trying to convert it to DivX with Vdub, it came out to a huge 1.3G file !!
cant seem to fix that !
