Encoding Projects (Batch) while frameserving Virtdub & TMPGe

Ok, I'd posted this in someone elses post, sort of like
leaching or something, anyways. My guess is, it wasn't
like (and not answered), so, I'm here posting my own in
a NEW topic.

I was looking to encode to seperate .mpg files. I
haven't tried this yet, but it seems it will work.
But...

I use frameserving. I frameserve Virtualdub to tmpgenc,
using filters in Virtualdub (that I like better than tmpg,
and that I prefer to continue using in my encodes). Ok,
so now, how do I create projects and save (per project??)
as each .mpg file??

What I want to do is encode my .avi's, but up to 640mb
(per size of CD) and stop for a moment to flush or save
640mb, and then continue with encode till we hit the 640mb
or end of encoding. Or, maybe in another project, I only
want to fill 400mb on a disk, so it would be kind of user
input friendly. Anyways.

Is this posible? I have so much problems with audio sync if
I cut or join or merge or whatever, in ANY app I use, be it
bbmpeg, womble, tmpg, ect. If I were to have the ability
stated above, this would end my audio problems!!

Lets face it, all our encodes are fine, as long as we don't
have to cut or split them to fit on more than one CD. So,
any chance on what I'm asking posible?

Thanks, I didn't quite get it the first time, thought
you were responding to the owner of the other post.
Now I understand you ment for me (and others?).

Anyway, as for your answer, I got it! But, I think that
this is ok if I'm going to be right there to take care
of the Source changing and output file naming when
I want to continue encoding to another (2nd) file, or
even a (3rd) file.
But, I'm going to be running this process while I'm
asleep OR, away, like while at work or hours later,
elsewhere. I probably wont know for sure, of the
encode times for each time I want to break the file
and save as .mpg.
Did I miss something in Sefy's Guide, or is there
another way around this (while frameserving via
Virtualbud) ? I'm assuming that. . . Ok, let me
explain my process a little:

PART A:
1) - I load my .avi file in virtualdub
*** A) - append any additional .avi files
2) - I set whatever filters (3 of them)
3) - cut out/delete commercials or items I don't want
4) - select frameserve

PART B:
5) - start up Tmpgenc (i use v12)
6) - load frameserve file, i.e., "01.vdr"
7) - load my template
- make any last min. changes in settings or conifig.
9) - give NEW .mpg file a name
10) - start the encode process

This is pretty much my process. Can you see
if I missed something, or do I have to do one
of the processes a little different??

8a)go to the advanced tab, select source range and set start and end time of the first part.
9)give NEW .mpg file a name: new_part1.mpg
10)select file> save project: new_part1.tpr
The VirtualDub frameserver is still active.
Repeat these steps with all parts of the movie.
(new_part2.mpg, new_part2.tpr, etc.)
The VirtualDub frameserver is still active.
11)Select file> batch encode> add all projects> run.

At the moment, i'm Capturing the new STE**
epsidoe while recording it to S-VHS.

** I've noticed that the quality of the evenings
show is fuzzy or not so good. ...oh well!!

Sorry for not getting back soon enough. Right
after I submited my last post, I accidently
kicked my cpu on the floor. It was hard enough
that it knocked the video card slightly out of
pin alignment, and I in short, I had a system
crash, with no video. At first, I coundn't
figure out what was the cause, till I painstakenly
went though the procedure of one by one
pulling out cards and re-starting my system.
after several hours of fuss, here I am!!

Ok, so anyways. I tried your steps, and they
worked, sort of. Ok, first let me point out that
when I create projects, hence the .tpr files, and
then I proceed to File/Batch encoding, and I
start ADDing .tpr files to the list, I NOTiced that
the files in the window are the same filename.
i.e.,
001.tpr
001.tpr
001.tpr
.
.
should be:
001.tpr
002.tpr
003.tpr

But, they are all "001.tpr". So, I'm comfused.
But the Batch encoding does work, as I see
each file has the correct video during the preview
mode of tmpg. So, my next step was to go
into the D:\ and see how many .mpg's I have.
Well, guess what? Not one! Well, all except
the first file, which happens to be "001.mpg" with
0 bytes, because the Batch encoding job is not
yet finished. So far, 3 .tpr files have finished,
but I dont see any 3 of those files, i.e,
001.mpg 002.mpg 003.mpg, ...which is what
I'm looking for. I want individual .mpg files!
I have 7 .tpr files being batch encoding, but it
looks like only ONE .mpg file will be created.
I want all 7 INdividual files to burn on CD(s),
so that I can put what I want on as many CD's
as necessary. The size could be 700mb or
600mb or 200mb or 1200mb in total size, but
it would be easier for me to split files across
CD's this way when there are multiple .mpg
files via this Batch encoding I still trying to
figure out.

Sorry for all this jiberish! I'm hoping that you
(now) understand what I'm after. Ok, is this
STILL possible???????????????

Sorry, but your method, as stated in your above post didn't
work!! After 3 hours of Batch encoding (I stoped encode).
What I got was a 6 MB size file of the 5th starting .avi, about
15 seconds of it (cause I stopped the encode at the start of
another .tpr, to see what the size of the .mpg was at).
It looks to me, that every time the encode started another
.tpr file, it OVERwrote the prev. one. That sucks!! I guess
it had something to do with what I had stated in my prev. post.
Again, I'm using TMPGEnc v12. I know it's slightly slower than
the newer ones out there, but I'm comfortable with this version.
It looks like even Batch encoding doesn't work after all.

Anyone else having this problem with Batch encoding?
...and/or know of a workaround for this. I really need to get
this working - what I was trying to do from the start.

Then go to the advanced tab, select source range and set start and end time of the second part.
Give NEW .mpg file a name: new_part2.mpg
Select file> save project: new_part2.tpr

Of course the output file names must be different. Otherwise the previous file will get overwritten.

Thanks for your response.

I guess I just wasn't paying enough attention
to your answer(s). I missed the new_part1.mpg new_part2.mpg
parts. I guess I was soo ancious to get this working I was
blind to answers stairing me in the face.

I will try your method just before I leave for work this morning
and I will get back to you on my progress! I was smart this
time, because I left my pc on during the night and I also left
virtual running in frameserver mode and tmpg as well. So, I
wont have much to re-do, yeah!

Thanks for ALL your help!! It now works!!!!!
But, it is kind of combersome to use. Wish there were
a better way, ...but it works. So, I shouldn't really
complain about it - for now, he, he......

I'm now able to do many encodes of all those shows/projects
I've recorded - Horray!!!!!
