Error in burning data only ,burns dvd-r OK

Hi
I just got the dw-U10A the (oem version of sony dru500a) firmware 1.1d
I have P4 256 XP Pro
Nero 6.0.0.9
I burned already 2 dvd on dvd-r x4 with Nero and it turns out great with no problem ( it took about 15 minutes to burn 4.5 Giga)

But when I tried to burn data with nero I did not succeed.

First I got the message "can't burn at x4" after 2% of burning
I tried than at x1 it seemed to work but after an hour I got error
On the burned dvd I saw all the files but could not display them or copy.
I ruined 3 dvd-r in the process.

what seems to be the problem ?

Should I upgrade my firmware ? is this the problem , I tried to upgrade from the firmware page to 1.1.e but it did not detect my dvd
even that DriveInfo22 did, as Sony DVD RW DW-U10A 1.1D

I assume you have an understanding of the different formats under Nero. Some people report problems with Nero, but I have used it for some time (Version 5.80) and it works fine for me. You might try Burn4Free (Check the 'Tools' section of this site) as an alternative for data disks. Data disks should be easy, but some of the experts here might be able to give you better Nero advice if you are still having problems.
