Just got this and I have to say it sucks. You really don't get much for $175 these days. You are better off buying a jvc vcr with tbc for $200 if you can still find them. The AVT is a notch below the TBC in panasonic dvd recorders because there are certain things it doesn't correct which the panasonic will. It also creates the dread line break at the top of the screen on some tapes. The only thing this is good for is you're able to adjust the contrast, color, tint and brightness of the picture. The sharpness option doesn't even work. Overall not a very good deal for $175. I hope this helps anyone deciding whether they should get this or not.

Glad to finally have a review on this thing. Sounds like the DataVideo TBC-1000 is the winner. At least from your one review.
Also, the JVC machines with TBC are at least $400 normally.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Well JVC did make them for $200 and under when I bought one about a year ago. I guess I'm probably going to end up getting a datavideo. For $300 it better do a great job!

I have the 7800U. I guess it has DNR/TBC if you want to classify it like that.
