Please please someone help me this is driving me nuts. I have my sister's wedding video which my parents want on DVD so I have the tape in my VCR which i have rca cables going out to my camcorder (Sony DCR-PC101) and then a firewire cable going from my camcorder to my computer. I have the camcorder set to A/V->DV which means it accepts the analog and outputs it as DV to the computer. I've done this before with a tv tuner capture from the vcr. So when i play the video it shows up fine on the camcorder lcd but in Vegas when i go to capture it says no tape and won't let me capture. I also tried Windows movie maker and it wouldn't let me capture either! Please someone if you know what settings i need to change or how to get this work please help me. it's driving me insane! thanks a lot in advance and sorry if this message sounds rude or something i'm just very frustrated right now because i can't get this to work properly. please help! thanks!

Relax, there is no problem. Vegas is working fine. What you have to do is in the Vegas capture program you need to go into the preferences section and disable camera control from the program (camera control from the program only works when there's a tape in the camera).. Then you click the button below the preview window to start capture (it will capture blue screen or black until you start the VCR) and fire up the VCR and there you go.

Thanks for the reply, but i've already unchecked this option. The capture button is greyed out and i'm not even able to click it when teh screen it blue. THe screen stays blue even though the vcr is playing and the camcorder is on. Any other ideas?

I've done this before with a tv tuner capture from the vcr.
Think about what is different. Can you still do this ?

Hmm, wierd, I guess I would try putting a tape in the camera and enabling the control camera option and seeing if at least that was working. If you can't capture from a tape in the camera, then I'd reinstall Vegas.

Go to the Vegas forum to ask this question - they are a great bunch and very helpful. http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowTopics.asp?ForumID=4&ms=1

Re tuner capture: if you weren't capturing via Vegas, then your tuner experience has no relevance here.

Thanks all for the replies. I really appreciate it. I've given up on capturing with Vegas. Dont' get me wrong I still love the program for editing and such, but it just seems too much trouble than it's worth to figure out why it's acting like it is. It's just a very weird problem.

Anyways...I found a program that came with my laptop called DVGate Plus. It's a Sony bundled program and it does exactly what i need to. All i have to do is open up the program and I can see what's playing on my VCR right away no need to mess with settings or anything. So thanks again for the replies.
