Is it just my DVD-RW burner or does all DVD-RW burners not capable of erasing CD-RWs? mind just doesn't erase CD-RW or is this a software problem? I'm using Pioneer A05, and Nero5.5.

I've had RW disks that won't erase if overburned. You didn't format it for packet writing did you?

  4. I'm using an NEC 1100A and nero 5.5.10.20 and have no problems with CD-RW or DVD+RW. If I ever re-use the CD-RW, I just start the burn session, then Nero asks if it should format the disk. I click on Yes and it burns as normal.

  6. Hi,

Had a problem with a DVD-RW once. None of the 'standard' burning progs would work; Nero, Record Now, Roxio etc. In the end DVDinfo worked perfectly.

Not sure if it will do CDs though.

  7. I had the same problem with my sony drive, it would not write or erase. It was a Memorex Platinum CD-RW. It gets stuck on the lead in, until it finally gives up. I've reported in another thread that I thought the dru laser was at fault, but I was dismissed and admonished. Anyway, I submit again that this drive has problems, no matter what the die hards say. For DVD-R burning, no complaints as I've only used the name brand media.

Here's how I fixed it. Used my laptop cd-rw to do the first write to the disk and problems all went away. Once brought back to the dru for a re-write, surprise, same disk BUT this time it worked. Also note, even Sony brand CD-R, gave me skips in my burned cds when burned at max speed. Once reduced the speed, it was much better, 8x.

Expand on that -- Does NERO give you an error message, does it go through the process, but the disc is still not erased? Does it not do anything? What brand of media? If Memorex, throw the disc out now and cut your losses -- Memorex is 100% garbage imo. What version of firmware?

I too have an A05 v1.33 and use NERO 5.5 with DVD-RW mostly, and the odd CD-RW (TDK and Verbatim are all I use for CD-RW), and have never had a problem with either.
