  1. Hi, I've tried to search forum and couldn't find an optimal solution.

When I capture from my miniDV camcorder via Ads firewire using DVIO or other software, capturing interrupts suddenly. Everytime - different intervals of time. Sometimes it captures longer, sometimes interrupts right in the beggining. I don't have a separate HD for video, so I am planning on buying one. Just want to confirm that it will solve the problem, maybe not. If to buy a HD which one is the best pick?

    Thank you,
    Andrey

  2. I doubt a seperate HD would solve the problem, it sounds more like some system activity is interfering with the capture. Make sure all background programs are shut down, especially virus checkers and see if that helps.

That's good advice from Bugster. :c) I'd also unplug broadband (if you have it), so you can stop any firewall activity (if applicable), and even check screensaver's disabled. :c)

  4. Hi,

I had this problem which was caused by an active ISDN card in my system. When there was ISDN activity the capture was interrupted. Even though I had no programs running which used the card. Activity on the ISDN line was enough to interrupt. I can imagine that even network activity can cause some sort of interrupt.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Thanks, but it didn't work.
I disabled network card & modem. I closed most of the applications. But it still interrupts. I remember one more thing. When I installed Matrox codecs it increased the time before interrupt occurs. If you have any more ideas please help. I was surpirsed when you said it wasn't a HD problem. I am confused should I buy separate HD or not. I just want to make sure it will help. Maybe there is something else I can do.
    Thanks,
    Andrey

Buying a dedicated harddrive is definitely the way to go - in future. What was said above was that lack of another drive is probably not causing the problem you describe.

Do you routinely defrag the drive you have now? Very important for those huge video files.

I started with one and went to 3. But I did not have problems when I had only one.

PS - I use USB2 for capture, so I can't help with firewire except to say make sure that's secured well and in place.

  7. I defragmented HD a week ago. OK, I got it about a dedicated HD, will search for a real cause. Thanks anyway.

I was trying to capture last night to an Acomdata housing with a 120gb drive. It kept interrupting and spitting out a "delayed write" error. I was capturing with Pinnacle Studio 8 throught the firewire port on an Audigy sound card. The camera was daisychained thought the Acomdata drive. When I rebooted and captured straight to an IDE hard disk, everything works fine. I can then move the files from the hard drive to the Acomdata drive, and all is still fine. Its only when capturing that I have seen this problem.

  10. OK, here what that's coming down to. I messed with my PC for about 6 hours and here what I've achieved. After I optimized my PC using a guide for "video editing 1.0" and I know can capture up to 10000 frames or about 5 minutes of video. BUT it still interrupts on different intervals. In other words, I can now capture much longer but still the problem was not solved. Here what else I did. I set up new hardware profile where I disable all hardware except needed for capturing. I even disabled my video card(because I found out that Nvidia cards often cause problems related to video capturing). And I shut off all background programs except for critical. here is the result - I couldn't go further than 6000 frames. which is shorter than I could capture with all hardware enabled. For me its all coming down to HD. I just don't see anything else that may cause it. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Andrey
