  1. I am doing some tests with CCE and TMPGENC and in generated what seems to be a complient MPEG stream DVD Complete indicates it as incompliant. I am using CCE and have the max bitrate set to to 8mbs VBR. DVD compliant says it is 9.8. I changed it to 8mb CBR and was successful important the file.

The second part of this is that I tried the MPEG stream with MyDVD 4 and it had no problem with this file.

Has anyone Else had any problems?

Any suggestions on what CCE settings I should use to obtain the best quality? Any hints on on a tweaking procedure I should adopt? And finally.. Would I get better performance using CCE in plug in mode or using it with AVISYNH or some other frame grabber?

So far I am impressed with the quality of the MPEG stream of CCE. TMPGENC is next.

You might want to check your max. bitrate settings. I think Dazzle DVD Complete like Scenarist is set as 8000 max and CCE is more likely than not set to 9000 max. I had the same problem with DVD2DVD and the default Scenarist settings. I do not think DVD Complete allows you to change this setting, so you would have to make the adjustments in the encoding programs process.

  3. Yes I was aware of the 8mbs limit and I changed CCE to have a max of 8mb and used 2 pass VBR. DVDComplete still complained so I changed it to 2 pass CBR with a rate of 8mbs and it worked.

With MyDVD, the 2 pass VBR 8mbs max files had not problem being imported and it worked in the DVD player. I guess I could use 8mbs CBR with CCE, but I was wondering if anyone else ran into this problem.

Yeah. I had the same problem with DVD Complete. I tried the 2 Pass VBR in CCE Basic and DVD Complete complained that the video was non-compliant. I did what you did, that is, changed to CBR and it worked fine.
I was encoding home videos and did not care if the size was larger.

I'm not having the same problem, but I am using My DVD is frustratingly long. I created (what I thought were) DVD-Compliant MPEG files using Ligos 3.5. But My DVD transcodes these files (at very high bit rates), and the process goes on forever! I’ve read the help file, but I haven't found a work around as yet. Does anyone here know of one? I read the work-around using DVD Factory, but I'd much rather not spend the money on a new app (at present) unless I have to.

DVD Movie Factory has a trial version. Try it out for thirty days or so for free. That is what the company that makes it wants you to do.

In response to your original question concerning CCE. Whenever, you encode in CCE basic using VBR, it ALWAYS sets the max bit rate to 9800, regardless of your average bit rate (there's an explanation in the accompanying manual for what it's worth). In any case, it always writes 9800 as the video bit rate to the M2V header. I use Tmpgenc DVD author and it always complains that the max bit rate is exceeded (combining video + audio). Fortunately, it's only a warning. I ignore the warning and it works fine, regardless.

Suggestion. Use Restream (freeware--see tools--or something similar) to simply change the header info. E.g. change it from 9800 to 8000 and see if it works. If so, then you can get the full benefit of VBR encoding from CCE basic and it should work (hopefully) in DVD Complete. Hope this helps. Post your results.

  8. Thanks wwaag I will give your suggestion a try and report back. I will have to read the rational behind setting the max bit rate to 9800. To me that seems rather odd considering there is a place to set the max bit rate in the encoding section. Seems like a bug to me.

  9. wwaag,

Thanks for the tip. I used ReStream and was able to change the value and DVDCOmplete took the file without complaining. THanks for the work around!!
