  1. This drives me nuts, on some files you are not alowed to edit (i.e. copy) the video track in QuickTime. Why is this and is there a way around it?

  2. You can't edit MPEG1s at all. What you have to do is use bbDEMUX to seperate the audio and video tracks, convert the audio into AIFF, and the video into .MOV (I'm testing using MPEG4 for editing, and so far it works, and I've heard you can also use DV).
Stupidity is like nuclear power, it can be used for good and evil-and you don't want to get any on you.

  3. Thanks Stung!
In this case though, the file was a demuxed mpeg 2 (xvid conversion from FFMPEGX) and I was still having these problems! All I'm trying to do is join the two mpeg files but QuickTime refuses to allow me to copy either of them, it gives back a "no video track" or some such error. This is rather odd, since the video file seems to play just fine in QuickTime. DivX Doctor is reporting a problem with the files (aside from the AC3 soundtrack) and won't convert them, even though it will export the AC3. Now before somebody (Galactica) screems GIGO (Garbage in Garbage out), these files play absolutely beautifully in VLC.

All I want to do is join them, can somebody help??

are you trying to imply something??

mpgtx wrap is a great app for adding two .mpeg files together, even muxed ones. just open the app, click JOIN, choose 1st one, choose 2nd one and click join

as long as they are of same frequenzy/resolution (etc) it should have no problem

likewise ffmpegx can add two mpeg's together. under tools go to VIDEO TOOLS
select 1st browse as 1st mpeg
select 2nd browse as 2nd mpeg
    click JOIN under launch processing
    again same thing...

    Garbage in = garbage out.

Dont forget that once you have joined your MPEGs, it might be necessary to demux the joined file and remux it.

    This fixes timecode errors.
