  1. I learned that the reason that my DVD+R wouldnt play on my friends' Toshiba DVD players (but the DVD+RW's would) was because I was using Nero, and amoung other things, it didn't properly "close" the discs.

So, I now use RecordNow Max.

I notice that DVD Decrypter has the option to close session, track or disc when you right click on the drive dialog.
If I am burning a DVD+R, when do I close the disc using DVD Decrypter?

  2. If you're not burning with Decrypter (does the new version offer a burn option?) you don't need to close a DVD -- if it's not a burning function I suspect it only means it no longer has those files "checked out" (i.e., marked as reading them so other programs can't edit them, etc.).

  3. Yes, you can burn with Decrypter.

I was having problems with +R discs not playing in some DVD players, but +RW were fine.
When I switched to Recordnow MAX, that fixed it (was using Nero).
I know that Recordnow finalizes properly.

I am using Instantcopy, and I will burn with DVD Decrypter, so I want to make sure it finalizes properly. Or, is there a way in Instantcopy to save to harddrive not as an ISO, but as VIDEO_TS?

This is what they mention at DVDplusRW.org about finalizing:

"Why do my DVD+RW discs play, but my DVD+R discs don't?

Ususually, when a player plays DVD+RW discs, it is very likely that is will also play DVD+R media (as they have even more DVD-like characteristics than DVD+RW discs). In most cases when a owner of a DVD+R/+RW video recorder experiences this problem, he or she had forgotten to "finalize" the DVD+R disc. This operation, which is not needed for DVD+RW discs, needs to be applied on a DVD+R disc once you've finished recording it in order to make it DVD compatible. Check the manual of the recorder to see how to access this option in the recorder's menu screens."

When dvdplusrw.org talks about a DVD+R/+RW video recorder it means a standalone video recorder
When it says DVD+R/+RW PC drive, now that's your Ricoh.

Some say RecordNow and DVD Decrypter ISO writing make more compatible discs than Nero.

All burning softwares should close these discs - its required for DVD-Video
Unless you messed up the settings (multisession, high compatibility mode,...etc)

Just stick to the proper burning (and booktype) setting and everything will be fine with Decrypter(default settings) and RecordNow.

  5. I also had problems with Nero 6.0 finalizing all my DVD +r.
I used DVDencryptor to close session first then close disk to fix those DVD+r.

I fixed my Nero problem by uninstalling and installing 6.3 version.
Make sure that you do not unload Nerocheck.exe from loading with Windows.

My DVD writer is LG 4040B.

    I hope this helps
