Has anyone had any experience comparing a dual processor setup compared to a single when it comes to rendering? I am thinking about upgrading my XP 2200 to a new motherboard with dual processors and was wondering if it sped up the process of rendering significantly. I would think it would help some with the load as well as the speed but would like to hear some first hand experiences.
Thanks

I guess for rendering you need plenty of CPU power, high buss speeds to transfer data, fast hard disks to read and write. For a fast rig I'd say running DUAL CPUs is a good idea. Using two drives would also be a good idea (read from one/write to the other).
I've got several rendering jobs laying around here to do, you upgrade and i'll send them over. ok
Good luck. -
If a rendering program can make use of dual processors, yes it will be faster. How much? I'm sure if you search around enough, somebody has done some testing. You would probably do just as well by using plenty of fast memory, a faster processor, faster bus speed and faster hard drives. Take a look at the computer profiles of the users of this site and I think you will get a good idea of what works for them.
