  1. I was trying out the trial version of snagit with a WMP window and only captured a black screen.

I seem to remember seeing here or elsewhere that it was related to some settings in the Video card settings. Possibly something to do with how it handles overlays?

I took a look in the display properties (AIW 7500A) and didn't see anything that looked like it would help

The rest of the screen captured Ok, But what good is it if the WMP part of the capture is blank?

I've tried searching here but no joy. I thought I'd seen it in relation to capturing video from something like WMP.

    Thanks

You just need to disable hardware acceleration. :c)

    Temporarily, of course.

You can do it without a snagging program in PowerDVD if you have that.

  3. Thanks, I do have PowerDVD but it won't do screen caps will it?

I'll try turning off Hardware Acceleration.

    Once again Thanks

Yes, Power DVD will do it for you. :c) Go into Configuration - the hammer looking thingy - go to Video and un-tick Enable Hardware Acceleration.

Then use the little camera button for screengrabs. :c)

Re-tick Enable H.A., when you have all you need.

    And.......... you're welcome. :c)

  5. Depends what you mean by screen cap. It will capture a frame of video, but it won't do a screen capture of your display including video playing on your desktop like this.

Yes, the above is for a screengrab of the video "screen". For full desktop screens that include video or any DirectX app (games) I use Hypercam DX.

    :c)

Hey, I think I missed that version, Craig. :co

    Thought I had them all!

  9. Hmmm, Looks like I need to use Snagit, altho they recommended Camtasia for video, or Hypercam Dx then, do they have a trial version of Hypercam? I like to try before buying, so I can see if a product meets my needs.

    Thanks for all the replies.

  10. Before I forget. For many things such as 1 frame screen caps I have used the Printscreen key. I then pasted into Wordpad or Word. I didn't even think of it for WMP video since I wanted clips from the video to be running for demo purposes.

I end up doing all kinds of things here at work since I'm a generalist (J.O.A.T) as well as computer repair & upgrade person.

  11. When using CamStudio I've only been able to capture video by using WMP(6.4 - 9) and only by turning off Video Acceleration.I can't seem to capture with any other player.
