  1. I need an app that enables me to load a DVD, a VOB or a VIDEO_TS folder that can play the actual video in a preview window. To extract audio specific audio segments in AC3 or PCM ect, I need this app to have like a Timeline under the video with a transport bar. In the Timeline I need to be able to set 'In & Out' points to select specific segments of the DVD for extraction of the audio within these bounds. FCP or iMovie are good examples of having a video preview window that provides this 'In & Out' point selection.

Is there any app on OS X or WinXP that provides this ability

FYI I need AC3 files for extraction, i then later split the channels up.

    Thanks

Here's an idea, why not just load up your dvd into VLC, watch it with its "preview window" and then write down the chapters you want to extract, then extract the chapters you want with OSEX to get .m2v and .ac3.

However, I dont think such an app is on the OSX scene as of yet.

on the contrary, the Forty Two product line most likely has what you are looking for.

I am trying to make sense of the FortyTwo product line.. and have not come away successful. I have been using OSex to extract elemental steams which has been giving me AC3 files which need to be fixed using mAC3dec.

    FortyTwo MPPlus has these options:

VCD, SVCD, CVD, DVD, Sizzle none of those sound like an M2V and AC# file. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Also, I ran into my first PCM file instead of AC3.. and mAC3dec does not like PCM files (hence the name AC3) so any suggestions to fix a PCM file extracted by OSex?

If you are only looking to get portions of the audio on a DVD, but don't want to go through the ripping process, you can use a little program called WireTap. It makes an AIFF file of whatever sound is being sent out of your system's sound architecture. I've used this to record streaming audio from web sites -- I once even tapped into another user's music library via Rendezvous while in the Apple Store SoHo (I of course deleted the copies I made).

It's small, it works, and it's free. http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/freebies/

Hi, thanks for the reply.. no I am not simply looking for the audio portions. I am looking for both the audio and video to compile into another DVD..
