  1. Hello, I need only to capture a couple VHS tapes to DVD so will this card be good enough for what I need? If not, what do you recommend around the same price?

That card ? and I have never heard of it. Spend a little more and get something from ATI or Happenhauge Win TV Series Cards. I have both ATI (the new VE Pro which captures at full DVD MPEG-2) and the WIN PVR 250 (has an MPEG-2 cecoder chip) set up to record TV using Snap Stream. For VHS capture I would recommend not buying based a card based on this alone, cause then you'll want to start capturing some TV shows too. If you can get your hands on an IO Magic PVR card, that will be in your price range. Comes with Power VCR II and has a nice join/cutter editor. A no brainer!

  3. Unless you have a money issue, search on the canopus advc 100. There's nothing better, but you'll pay $250+ for it. No dropped frames and no macrovision problems. I wouldn't part with mine.

  5. Yes, knowing me I will want to start recording shows as well. But my main focus is capturing my VHS collection to mpeg-2. That said can you recommend a decent card under $100?

I got my backup ATI AIW Radeon 7200 card off eBay for $70 shipped back in June.

You can find good ATI AIW Radeons for about $50-100 all the time on eBay. These 7000-8500 models are discontinued, but every bit as good as the 9000 cards. Most of the sellers are wholesale companies, just check feedback when bidding, and you should be fine.

  7. save your $100, get a dvd-recorder,
anything less, isnt worth the effort,
capture card is good for a movie or
two, now and then, but if u want to
do often, its not worth the effort....
