  1. I have recently purchased a Canopus ADVC 100 device. So far I have tried capture attempts from a VCR to my 1394 port using Scenalyzer, Ulead Studio 7 trial, and Sonic MyDVD. The only successful capture I have made is with Sonic MyDVD, but even this software doesn't work like it should; because I was unable to add chapter points.
I have recently downloaded the trial version of Pinnacle Studio 8, but have not gotten the chance to try it yet.
If anyone has found capture/editing software that works well with the ADVC 100 device, please let me know. I would like to know what works well before I invest any further money. If there are certain tricks to some programs, please advise me of them also.
    All help/advice appreciated!
    Thanks!

  2. I've tried many capture applications (MediaStudioPro 7, VideoStudio 7, Movie Factory, DVD Workshop, EZDV, and some freeware/shareware programs. The one that I like the best with with the ADVC 100 for AVI capture and for AVI output back to tape is Scenalyzer http://scenalyzer.com/main.html

Scenalyzer captures without dropping packets even in the background while I'm actually working on other things, makes it easy to export the AVI back to tape, can schedule captures, and hasn't crashed once.

If you want capture direct to MPEG1 or MPEG2 then it is a toss up between the Ulead products; MediaStudio 7 probably was the best for that but DVD Workshop isn't bad either.

  3. I have successfully used Ulead VideoStudio 5.0 and 6.0. DVD Workshop 1.0-1.3, and Amcap. No problems with any.
I always capture to DV format and re-encode.
Just what is this reality thing anyway?

I have used ADVC-100 with Pinnacle 8 with the lastest updates and capturing without any drops. quality is as good as the source it self. input device is a 8mm camcorder. I haven't tried any other input source.

worth the money I paid for..

You are just file transferring from the ADVC-100 not capturing. I use WinDv because it has a preview screen, but DVIO works also. Once the file is transfered to the hard drive as DV, you should be able to edit with the software mentioned. I have zero dropped frames unless the VCR has dropouts on it. I don't edit much, just encode with TMPGEnc Plus and author to DVD with TMPGEnc Author.

  6. I'll second the Scenalyzer vote! I can set it up to capture only X minutes of video, then walk away and not have to worry about my hard disk being maxed out when I return hours later.

I use Vegas Video for all my DV transfers. Works good for me.

It's too bad that Main Concepts integrated their DV and Analog capture programs directly into their Main Actor program (v5) instead of leaving them as separate programs (v3). The DV capture lets you select Type 1 or 2, auto file splitting (Fat/Fat32), auto file numbering, camera control, and preview. The analog capture had similar features.

  9. I use Pinnacle Studio version 8 as well and I believe (not sure) that trial version does not include MPEG2 encoder so not sure if you are going to be able to test what you need.
