Not sure what the difference between a avi divx and avi xvid but I do know how to take these files and convert to a vcd using virtualdub and tmpgenc and burning with nero and watchon a standalone dvd player.

My question is ( I couldn't find a guide) Can I convert an avi to a dvdr without having to first covert to a compliant vcd mpg file? I know some of the avi files are 23.976fps and others are 29.97fps are there programs that do all.

I'm trying to eliminate first coverting to mpg files if possable.

familiar with using thes tools virtual dub tmpgenc and tmpgencdvd

    much appreciated....thanks for any help

I know Video Studio can take an AVI file and burn a DVD with it.

I think I understand what you mean.(?) You have an AVI movie that's in DIVX format and wanting to make it work on your set top DVD player.

My answer: no. Those codec AVI's won't play on standalone DVD players.

Suggestion: Buy a certified DIVX DVD player. Link for one at DivX website.
