  1. I have a stupid question , but I need it answered before I buy a DVD burner. First, I have a DVD ROM player which is region free (rpc-1), but the burner I am about to buy is not region free (rpc-2). My question, Is it possible to copy a DVD and have the region proctection taking off? I believe I could rip the DVD with my region free player and burn it with the DVD burner, but will it burn? Will the DVD burner read the proctection and stop burning? How does one take the proctection off the disc when copying? The burner I am thinking about buying is the Plextor 708a, but it is not region free. Any suggest, advise or links on how to deal with this problem would be greatly appreciated...!

If you've never done it, have a look at DVD RIP to the left there in How To. Answers all those questions for backing up.

If you use smartripper, it should remove the region coding from the disc...I have used this program for a few years, and it has never given me an issue. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/smartripper.cfm
Check out this link, its one of the several links to download smartripper....It is freeware, best of all!!!! The program is also available from this site as well..... Any questions on how to use it, feel free to contact me.

  4. Thanks for the quick responses. I have another question that is an off topic , but still needs to be addressed. I am going to buy the DVD burner , but I found out that my power supply only has four main connectors and they are used up. Have any of you used a cable splitter from one of the main connectors to use on two devises? I really do not want to buy another power supply or remove my existing burner. Any feedback on this would be great...! Again, thanks for the quick response!

I use an external (Sony) burner through USB2. Maybe that's a solution for you too.

I have to use a splitter (4 IDE sockets - upto 8 drives), and have had no probs.
Just make sure your power supply is up to the job
