Avlogic.com has the NEC +/- R/RW drive for $118.

sure do, but not personally interested in a 'dash' drive or 'multi' w/o bitsetting.

Just thought I would throw that deal in for anyone interested.

There is a "war" but you can ignore it. You can always buy a new burner when a clear winner emerges. For my money I bought a dual format burner but I believe that within a year the + camp will emerge as the market leader.

That's why bitsetting is important. I can set my burn to 'dvd-rom' or even dash if important. Even still the format confusion isn't going away anytime soon. ..So, by the time it's cleared up, either there will be a whole new standard or even if Dash wins out, it'll be time for a new drive

Since I already own a Pioneer 104 DVD-R 2X, think I will just stick with it.
I think 1 year from now the dust will have settled and the format direction will be clearer.
Ofcourse by that time, there will be a new media of some type...lol
I'm sticking with my 104 till christmas of 2004...well unless I change my mind...Jim -

Works great, I updated the firmware to 1.11 RPC-1 and I allready burned some DVD+R's with bitsetting set to DVD-ROM, My old 2nd generation DVD player plays them fine 8) -

I just bought a 52x24x52 CDRW for $29.95 after rebates, no tax, free shipping. I remember buying a 8x4x12 SCSI CDRW 3 years ago for over $150.
Now the original post is for a 4x +RW for $109. A followup post said a 4x +/- RW for $120. How much do you think you could get a 2/2.4x + or - for in February??? I'm guessing $79.95???
The 8x +RW / 4x -RW is under $200 with the right coupons. Prices are falling fast!!! Buy one of each and be done with itp
Besides, -R is doomed for technical reason. It's physically impossible to do 16x, and 8x is exceedingly difficult. On the other hand, +R can do 16x just fine. This has to do with how the data is physically burned, not any brand loyalty. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Just got the Burner installed. 2 backups with Bitsetting to DVD-ROM, and both PERFECT burns! Interestingly, my case temps actually went down when switching out my CD-Burner for this DVD burner. I have a Small Form Factor PC, so low temps are VERY important!

killerfish,
Good for you! Bit-setting is a handy feature to those who know of it and know how to use it.
Out of curiosity what DVD Player are you using that you required the Rom bit-set for?
Happy Boyning at any rate!
