Trying to make a vcd on a dvd using nero. I just got a dvd recorder(plex708a) and wanting to take the better movies I've collected on hd and burn to dvd instead of splitting into 2 cds on cdr's. I've already encoded using tmpgenc and have 1 large mpg file. I would normally just open nero and select video cd under new compilation select new and drag the file and burn to 2 cdrs. Now I would like to make them on 1 dvd.

But i can't figure how to do with dvd media and dvdrecorder...when i do the steps above it thinks its a cdr. Using nero 6.0.0.11
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

    Got it......hehe

Basically what I did is started over.......I encoded to 29fps and then followed the guide, and it worked.

    thanks everyone

  2. Yep, the DVD standard includes the VCD standard. So if you want, the encoding, capturing, editing would all be the same. The only difference would be you would use a DVD author program instead of a VCD program.

I don't think that nero can take mpg files and make a DVD though (at least version 5.5, I don't know about 6). You will need a DVD authoring program to make a vob file.

So I would have to take the mpg file and make it into a vob file? And then how would I burn?

Hmmm I just wanted the movie on 1cd (dvdr) instead of 2 (cdrs) and still watch in a standalone dvd player.

hehe....maybe I'll just sick to burning to 2 cdrs....I thought it would be easier

    thanks for the help

Its not hard at all. If you don't want menus its nothing more than just putting the mpeg file into the author program and clicking "go". It would tkae 5 minutes tops.

    take a look at this...

This is the file I'm working with "cd1_all.mpg" Infoedit under dvd author is asking for a m2v file, do I just rename the above file to cd1_all.m2v?
And then not sure what to do for audio file. Trying to do just step 2 as you said above. Not sure what to do with scene changes/chapters. And then for output stream/destination would i just give a destination with video_ts as the name for completed file, and click ok.

    thanks for you help

You ned to demultiplex the "cd1_all.mpg" file, that is separate it's audio (mpa) + video (m2v)
    This guide shows you how
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/176385.php
only need to go to step 7 then carry on with infoedit. (or DL TMPGEnc DVD Author)

  7. Don't forget also that the audio must be 48khz(DVD standard) instead of the 44khz(VCD standard).

when i demultiplex the "cd1_all.mpg" file, I got a cd1_all.m1v instead of m2v file, infoedit didn't like that. How do I get a m2v file? Did I miss something?

    thanks again for everyones help

still need to see if I can get a m2v instaed of m1v as stated above.
But I ran into another snag using the guide above https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/176385.php

with tmpgenc and Tmpgenc DVD Author....after following all the steps when i loaded the new mpg file in Tmpgenc DVD Author I got this error " The video framerate 23.976 fps cannot be used for a standard dvd you can only use the following 29.97 or 25fps"

hehe....I guess this is turning into a project.....any ideas....can I still make this work?

    thanks

So I don't spin everyones wheels in the future if this can't be done how do i see what the fps is of mpg files. I use virtual dub for avi's.

    thanks again
