Select the Load button. All the templates you have in TMPGEnc will be displayed. Select the one your MPEG-2 file will be used for (e.g. DVD, SVCD, etc.). Select Open.
    Hello.

Why? MPEG1 is a format supported by DVD and no quality gain can be made when the source is lower.

For what purpose? To have them, of course! Have you tried the templates in TMPGEnc, yet?
    Hello.

Converting an mpeg1 into mpeg2 will only result in a loss in quality and lordsmurf and I fail to see any benefit to performing the conversion. Unless we're missing something?!?

Does your dvd player not support the vcd format? Are you trying to make
    a dvd compliant video?

  12. yes it supports vcd but i wanna make svcd because the quality is much better but my dvd doesn'tm support svcd's so im gonna do the header trick but i need to know how to change my mpeg-1 into a mpeg-2

  13. You'd pretty much need to use the templates in TMPGEnc but I'd have to agree with Lordsmurf and Zippy..........you're not going to gain any quality by converting to SVCD. Remember - Garbage In, Garbage Out.

  14. Imagine a small framed picture hanging on a small nail. Does moving the picture to a bigger nail make the framed picture bigger? No, even though it's true that the bigger nail can support a bigger picture.

You want to take an mpeg1, convert it to mpeg2 and then do the header trick in order to play it on your dvd player!?!

Don't bother, it will only get worse. Yes, an SVCD is better than a VCD but you need the original source file in order to create a better quality file. Your VCD will look like crap converted to a higher resolution.

Not the VCD but the original? Then just use that to create your SVCD.

If you are talking about the source VCD file, that is not going to help any. If you are talking about a higher quality mpeg that was "downgraded" to a VCD compliant version, then you could increase quality.
