Give it a chance; these things get leaked before any web developer/administrator is able to update the site! Philips doesn't even have the press release on their news pages yet, only the RW Alliance site is carrying it.

Pioneer are some 3 years ahead in this game than Philips and have unlikely stood still, they are also known not to go in for big marketing gestures or press releases months in advance. +RW was demo'd at trade shows for around 3 years before it made the shops. Mt Rainier has been pushed down our throats for the last 2 years yet hardly any writers support it, yet Pioneer silently launched their latest writer with a Mt Rainier equivalent system with no fanfare! A nice PowerPoint presentation with two people frolicking over a silver disc, and a demo at a trade show are no guarantees of anything happening quickly. At this stage it is all marketing and hot air until it is in the shops.

    Regards

    Philip
I read somewhere in firmware-flash that Pioneer's dual layer was written on the faq of Pioneer's Aussie website a year ago or so

    EDIT: here's the link
    http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/multimedia/dvd/dvd-r_faq.htm

Q: Can I use the current model DVD Writers to write to Dual Layer DVD-R's when they become available?

A: The basic technology for Dual layer DVD-R media is still under development so it would be impossible to incorporate this ability into the current model writers as no standards or media exist yet. It could be a few years away. No one knows what will be required to write to dual layer media if and when it appears. There is no doubt that a new drive will be required to write to dual layer DVD-R's.

...duh what is this chrono trigger hehe

Come to think of it...Philips, Sony and Pioneer are members of both DVD Groups...chances are they know their "secrets" because their engineers/developers gather on their forums...then why did they arrived on a seperate dual-layer format (again)?

  10. I thought this was going to be a INFO link on what dvd+r and the dvd-r camp is coming out with. But I guess I'm wrong. Some people respond worst than they killed a persons family member. It is only 2 dvd camps, just like beta and vhs. If you like what you got then great, don't cut down someone elses likes. Just enjoy YOUR EQUIPTMENT and discuss information.

Pioneer Corporation has proceeded to the development of dual layer recording on DVD-R discs.
The first measurements on the two layer DVD-R discs showed that the jitter for the fisrt layer is 9.34%, the reflectivity 17.3%, while the same measurements for the second layer were 8.08% and 19.5%, respectively. Playback compatibility with the current DVD players is expected to be high.

Although the limited information about the technology background, dual layer DVD recording is definitely a major step beyond and expected to boost the sales of DVD writers.
    yes gf,

looks like you have very good technic of "copy and paste" from CDRinfo.com in different threads.
