    Hi,

What method is the best way of getting the highest quality captures from a Sky Digital Box with RGB/Svid out?

Im debating whether to go for a capture card (any recommendations?) but am also thinking that I could buy a standalone DVD writer, then rip the DVD disc VOB files and edit on my PC. Im presuming this method would give me the highest quality. I also have a DVD Writer on my PC and a P4 2.6Ghz pc - would I be able to use this to burn on the fly much as I would with a standalone DVD recorder?

    Thanks!

Can anyone offer any general advice? Im either about to invest in a Hauppauge 350 card, or look at the standalone option. Id rather bese my purchase in the knowledge that someone with experience of this recommends it...

    Thanks

  3. I have a DVC II that I use to capture from the video output and it gives quite reasonable results from the SVHS output. OK it isn't quite as good as a proper DVD but it gives as good a picture as the original TV picture and it's already in an mpg2 format that is easy to convert to DVD. However it doesn't have the ability to act as a direct burn to DVD, in fact I'm not aware of any capture card that does that.

It would be better if the box gave a true digital output from the downstream but I guess the digiboxes are made to a orice. I must admit that I keep hoping that someone will come up with a plug in module, after all there is provision for such a thing but so far nothing has been forthcoming that I've heard about.

If you do hear of anything interesting please do let us know about it as I'm sure there are a lot of folks who would be interested.
