  2. Download MPEG2 Works app :

    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12715

    or

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20867

Choose "Demultiplex VOB with AC3 sound" under "Mux/demux" tab on "Tools" menu...Youll get MPEG2 video track and AC3 sound track...After that You can convert Your AC3 to some other audio format under "Audio" menu on "Tools" tab...

Keep in mind that thats only for 1 .vob.
if you want an entire dvd to divx, just use ffmpegx.
here's a guide on dvd (video_ts with .vobs) to DIVX.

sorry, was implying MPEG2WORKS lets you only select 1 .vob, not an entire list of .vobs (unless im mistaken)

I was not talking about DivxRay

    Try OpenShiiva 0.8.7. It's good.

    try this, try that...

Your VOB files are already in MPEG format. To make them a standard MPEG just rename them with a .mpg extension and process them through VCD Gear. This assumes that you are using only 1 .vob file and not a folder, as galactica states.

If you are using a folder of VOBs and want to process them into one Divx or (S)VCD, i recommend using forty-two or ffmpegX.

  9. Zero, would you mind expanding your instructions for those of us who ain't as comfortable with the Terminal?

The Read Me with VCD Gear is a little sparse.

So I've got this VOB extracted from the DVD and now I want to make it into a usable MPG.

Aside from renaming the extension how do I make VCD Gear take the next step?

    Thanks!

my apologies... use the GUI version for Mac OS X. Do a MPEG2MPEG conversion with the following options:

    1) remove CD-i bumper
    2) Fix broken blocks
    3) Dont split based on time code
    4) generate toast compatible

Check the box IN TERMINAL. This will allow you to see any errors that might occur.

  11. While we're on the subject, I'm working with VOB files, trying to get them into DVDSP 1.5. I've extracted using Extractor but I usually get "bad format" when I try to import the .m2vs, though the AC3 files are usually accepted. I was wondering if VCDGear could be used to fix whatever is wrong with them. I tried using the settings suggested by Zero but to no avail. I confess I'm a bit cluesless regarding all the options.

(Note: There may be some corruption in the original VOBs because I had problems resizing this particular DVD with DVD2OneX -kept crashing-while I never had problems before with other DVDs.)

I can't use OSEx because the VOBs are on my HD and apparently it only extracts from discs (interestingly, OSEX m2v files are usually accepted by DVDSP while the AC3s are not. With Extractor it's the other way around). I've tried ffmpegx to demux but those files are also not accepted by dvdsp for the most part. I've been meaning to try MPEGWorks but I'm working overseas behind a gov. firewall and they've blocked that particular site. I've read of other folks having success with these apps and DVDSP but I've haven't had any.

Any other tips on getting stingy mpegs into DVDSP?
