I'm attempting to transfer my home videos (8mm) to DVD. On the first tape that I've tried this on, I've manage to capture the video, author the DVD, and record it to both DVD-R and DVD-RW only to find that it doesn't play very well on my Pioneer 525 player.
When I start the movie, it starts out fine, but then the video gets kind of jerky, and the audio completely drops out. If I pause the disc and then un-pause it, the audio is back for a few seconds, but then it drops out again.
I have not had this problem with movies that I've ripped from other DVD's, so I'm thinking it is something to do with the capturing, authoring, or burning process.
The video was captured using WinFast PVR software that comes with the WinFast TV 2000 Deluxe capture card. I captured the video with the DVD settings (720x480, 5000mbps, MPEG-2 video, MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio).
After capturing the video I split it into seven clips using Womble.
The disc was authored using DVDIt PE v2.5. There are seven different buttons on the main menu that point to the seven separate video clips.
I have tried buring the disc using both DVDIt! and Nero v5.5.10.35.
I have also tried authoring the DVD using TmpgEnc DVD Author.
I have also tried authroing the DVD using the original clip (not using Womble), with no chapters or menus.
Does anyone see anything in here that would cause the behavior that I am seeing? Is it because I captured it as MPEG 2 or the capture software? That is the only part of the equation that I have changed.
As I said, I know the standalone player can play discs that I burn because I've done it with ripped DVDs before using the same media.
Thanks,
Chris

Well, after doing a lot of testing, and changing one thing at a time, I've finally figured out what is causing the the video to get choppy and the audio to drop out...... WOMBLE!
I'm using v3.14 of Womble Mpeg2 VCR. Has anybody else had this experience with Womble?
I narrowed it down to Womble by doing a capture to MPEG2 using the WinFast PVR software, and buring one disc without making any changes to the MPG file. I then used womble to grab a section out of the MPG file, using the copy and paste feature in Womble. I then burned a disc using this newly created MPG file. The first disc (the unedited one) played perfectly in my DVD player. The disc that contained the Womble edited MPG had the same problem that I described above (choppy video/dropped audio).
If anyone knows of a way to fix this I would really appreciate it. Womble seemed to be the perfect tool for my needs at first, but now I can't use it.
Thanks,
Chris
