  1. Ok, here is the deal. I bought a DVDR Concert (VHS Transfer). I want to back it up, but I can't seem to get it to work. When I put the original into my DVD player, a Blue Menu Screen comes up. It has the date that the guy burned the DVD. I have to use my arrows to go on that date and hit play or select. Now I used nero to burn a copy (I tried every tutorial, every different way of doing it. I finally got the DVD to burn but it wouldn't work on my DVD player. Then I tried it on my computer. I went in to Windows Media Player and the tracks looked like this:

    DVD
    +TITLE 1

If I clicked on DVD nothing would happen, but if I clicked on Menu 1, all 25 chapters would show up and it would immediately start playing. I believe the menu is the problem. Is there a way to fix this?

  2. If the source disc is DVDR (ie. single layer) the easiest thing to do use DVD Decrypter:

    1. Run DVD decrypter
    2. Choose "mode | iso - read" rip ISO image of source disc
    3. Coose "mode | iso - write" select and burn image

    That's it.

  3. If you want an exact copy of the disc, do what vejita said, but if you want to reauthor the menu you have to rip the video out. The use TMPGDVD Author. That guy did a very poor menu...blue screen..shit

Why don't you use DVDShrink to "shrink" the DVD to a 4.7 size. Since the source is 4.7Gb or less, no shrink or loss in quality will occur. But DVDShrink is usually able to correct minor authoring problems and will probably provide you with a clean VIDEO_TS folder for you to burn.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

Most of the bootleggers use that nasty screen. It's funny that they have no clue about programs like DVD Lab, etc, or how to use them. If they're going to sell bootlegs, they could at least make the menus and titles look nicer! IDIOTS! They stand on the street corner and try to get random people to buy their DVD's, then you take it home and play it, and you see that nasty blue screen menu. And they ALL use it! Out of curiosity, I wonder where they all get that "authoring" program from. It's the most pathetic menu I've ever seen.

  7. It sounds like a disc recorded by a set top DVD recorder, which uses the UDF format instead of an ISO format. Not very many DVD-ROM's will read these. I was only able to make a direct backup copy of one of these with toast titanium and my mac superdrive. Neither OSX or XP was able to read these.

  8. OK, this is a pretty easy project if you look at it correctly.

You have Nero, a DVD burner, and a master you want to backup. This master is of unknown size.... We know our blank DVD-R(or +R) is 4.4G(give or take a few MBs).

First thing is to find out how 'big' that master disk is. Nero can do this (if you can figure out how that is) or you can read this simple/neat tutorial

    http://dvdshrink.info/re-author.php

then download this very simple program.

    http://www.dvdshrink.org/

This program will show you just how 'big' this master is, whats on it, and give you the ability to select exactly what you want off of it.

Once you assure the master is of less size than your 4.4G(+-) blank then you can just use NERO to "Global Image" that baby into an image file on your hard disk, then tell NERO to "Make DVD from IMAGE FILE". (actual command names may be different - I'm not a NERO fan - but the same none the less)

If you decided to 'crop out' some of the movie and used DVD SHRINK (the download) to 'encode' a new copy onto hard disk folder, then use NERO again and create a DATA DVD DISK. Just drag the VIDEO_TS folder in and BURN-IT. (you may sometimes have an AUDIO_TS folder also)

    See, that was pretty easy.
    Good luck.
