copying individual DVD-ram episodes to PC

I would like to know if some one knows how to get around this small problem I am having. First of all I am recording one of my favorite tv shows on a dvd-ram disk. Each day I have the Pana E50 copy a different episode to the same disk. The problem is when I copy the file to my PC I am only able to see and edit the first show. I have at least 4 episodes on this disk.



My question is what can I do to be able to see and edit the other programs. I want to edit out the commercials and burn them to dvd-r.

I am not familiar with RAM medium, but somebody here told me that you should have some kind of files on it and if you just copy them and rename extension to .mpg, it should work. What is that you see on DVD-RAM ? Could you please post data structure ? Thanks.

The process you mentioned I already use. My problem is once a single disk is written to multiple times only the first instance is editable. All the other segments are viewable but not able to be edit.

OK. So you have files a,b,c on DVD-RAM and you can copy a,b,c to your PC but only a you can open in some software and b and c are giving you an error ?

Yeah. I noticed this too. Im afraid I dont know a fix for it.Now i just record to RAM, put that episode on my PC HD n then erase the RAM disc n record the next episode when its on. Im sure there must be a better method though

Andydd has it correct. I am not getting any errors only the first video becomes available for authoring and edit. It seems as if segment "a" is the only true file on the disk, "b" "c" and so on are only seen when using the dvd players.

I did notice something last night and that is DVD Workshop was able to see the entire sequence of files, but the problem is that I want to edit out the commericals before authoring with DVDWS. Mpeg2vcr also has problems with seeing the other segments.

I also found the same work around that andydd found, and that is to erase the segements one after the other. In other words lets say you have segments "a,b and c" on the disk and want to get to the "c" segment you must first erase "a and b". The "c" episode now moves to the top of the list and can now be edited.

One more item I must add here, I used mpeg2vcr to cut out the commerical segments on one of my episodes This created 4 seperated files of this particular episode. After which I inserted the seperated files into DVD Workshop, a total of four video clips. I set DVDWS to play one segment after another automatically. Well the program authored a disk that played one piece and defaulted back to the main menu. Even though the settings were set to play the next title automatically.

If anyone has an answer or idea as to why this happens with DVD Workshop please let me know. If the parts played one after the other then I would have no problem.

Another Panny E50 owner here.

I use TmpGenc DVD Author which can read the contents of the RAM disk (assuming a PC DVD-RAM recorder is installed).

It displays all the individually recorded programs and you can copy them to the HD as mpg files. Great program as you can edit out the adverts etc also.

I'm not sure if I am able to edit out commericals with an E50 because it doesn't have a hard drive. Yet from what I've read the edits are only recognized by the DVD-ram dvd player.

I will look into the TMPgenc DVD Author. I've used Tmpgenc for years and didn't know they had a true DVD product on the market. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a e30, no HD, I edit them right on the dvdram disk itself, explains it right in the manual. Very easy, have up to almost 1000 scenes.

When you edit the files do they stay that way once you copy them to the computer. In other words is the video consistant to the edits you made using your e30?

If you just "top and tail" the recordings on the E50, removing the ads etc from the beginning or end of a recording using the "Partial Erase" function the prog will be intact. However if you edit the ads from within a recording, this will then be read as a number of different recordings on the PC. TmpGenc DVD Author covers this by allowing you to add several mpegs to one "Programme". So you end up with a seamless result. Before you ask no I am not working for them but this is just such simple and easy software makes creating DVD's on the PC a breeze! The latest version also has far more scope for creating menus etc.
