Hello all,

My local BestBuy is selling a completely new Magnavox model, and it is hard to find any info on it.

I was looking for a decent DVD player for under $70. After seeing what was available locally and then looking around in the awesome DVD player list here, I settled on the Magnavox MDV421SL. I hopped on over to my local BestBuy, found the unit, picked it up, and then noticed they had a brand new Magnavox MDV455 on sale (as an introductory to a new model - $63) for $5 less than the MDV421SL. Externally, it looks similar. But it claimed progressive scan and all sorts of features that the MDV421SL did not claim. I went out on a limb and bought it. It is so new, that there is no information on it in the DVD player list here on dvdrhelp.com. I couldn't even find it listed at bestbuy.com. Does anyone here know anything about this unit? Does anyone here have any experience with it? I won't be able to play with it much, as it is a birthday gift for my backward father who refuses to buy a DVD player for himself (my wife and I are expecting our first child in Nov., and we want our parents to be able to watch all the new DVDs we are going to burn of her). I'm crossing my fingers hoping that it will play my custom burned DVDs. I will be giving him the gift tonight, so I won't even be able to touch it until then. One other thing... does it have good output quality to a standard TV (as in, regular video out)?
