  1. I am trying to decode a DVD movie to SVCD, everything works fine until DVD to SVCD starts using bbmpeg (for multiplexing I think), then it just stop. Does anyone know why it does that, and how to get it to stop doing that??

Are you using WinXP? If so you have to install the BBMpeg XP patch. Just do a web search on it.

Turn the logging on in DVD2SVCD and tell us what error it reports when it crashes. That's the only way to know what the problem is.

  4. But I have decoded movies before, but never had this problem. I have the DVD to SVCD software bindle installed. I think all of the codecs and patches are there?
    And what is kvcd??

If you are using WinXP then you must run the XP bbmpeg patch otherwise BBMPEG won't work. Regardless of what has or hasn't worked in the past, and regardless of whether DVD2SVCD does this for you or not, if you have not installed this patch then just go ahead and do it now. It only takes 1 sec so its worth a try and it just may solve your problem.

Unless you give us the log there is no way we can help you. Programs don't just stop, something goes wrong and usually a log will report what the error was that caused the program to end.

The official DVD2SVCD forum (I assume you are talking about DVD2SVCD when you say DVD to SVCD bundle) is located on doom9.net. You possibly may get better help there, but honestly they will tell you the same thing that I just did...give us the log.

kvcd.net is a site with guides and custom matrices. Telemike was just directing you to their guides on DVD to SVCD conversion.

  6. Oki…. I get it… but when i try to download the bbmpeg patch I end up on a page where I only can download the entire program… and I can’t find any description to how aply the path! Maybe I am stupid, I can’t get it to work. I am running bbmpeg v. 1.24 beta 18. So if there is a way to “update it. I need a guide.
Thanx for the info you gave me. I didn’t understand what kvcd.net was. I looked at the page, but it didn’t give me any answers.
There is no error log. It just stop working. Nothing happen. At 57% it just don’t go further. Everything works. I can stop it, and let dvd to svcd start a new task. So the program doesn’t freeze, just stop. And no error msg that I can see. If there is a place that the error is being logged that I don’t know about, pleas tell me where it is!

If you do a web search for "XP bbmpeg patch" you will find about a dozen sites hosting the file. Unzip the file and it will give you a .dll. Copy this .dll over the existing one in the directory where you installed bbmpeg. I assume this will be under the DVD2SVCD dir. Now that you say that bbmpeg has gotten to 57%, I don't think the patch is your problem. Without the patch it just crashes on import, but it was impossible to know when it was crashing from your earlier posts.

DVD2SVCD has a tab titled Log. Just look at it after the crash and tell me if it reports any errors. DVD2SVCD should also save the log as a txt file, probably in the DVD2SVCD folder.

  9. What i did was convert the whole thing to VCD instead of SVCD… and it worked… it was so easy… and the quality was ok… so I am happy! 8)

But thanx folks… I learned some new things, both from you people, and from my frustrating try, fail, and succeed project!

    Until next time......... 8)

  10. Reviving an old one here ...

I too have the same problem. W/ DVD2SVCD -- 55% thru muxing my MPG file, bbmpeg just stops dead in it's tracks. Still shows as running in APPLICATIONS and the PROCESS is a 99%. No alternative but to kill the program. I am running WinXP and this happens on 2 different systems when converting to MPEG-2.

I haver tried installing the bbmpeg XP patch -- but DVD2SVCD reports an error stating the the bbmpeg.dll is incorrect. It seems the bbmpeg.dll used by DVD2SVCD is a modified version.

There is a twist However -- if I use DVD2SVCD 1.1.2b1 -- it works fine on both systems. Anything newer and no go!

I like the newer versions of DVD2SVCD as it works better with AVI's using various encoders (i.e. HuffyUV, MJPEG, etc. Biuld 1.1.2b1 reports an error saying tit could not find the codec. Again -- "confused:

I will try using the bbmpeg.dll from the 1.1.2b1 and report how that works. But any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  11. Installed 1.1.2b1 bbmpeg.dll and no difference. Still stops while mux'ing at 55%. This is not isolated to one AVI file, but any AVI file -- even while processing DVD rips. Nothing in the log files to indicate a probelm -- it just stops mux'ing w/o errors.

    Any ideas -- please !!!!!!

    Thanks !!

  12. Strange, I was just about to post a bbMpeg error that I got yesterday until I saw this post.

I was backing up a DVD and everything worked fine until bbMpeg started. At about 99%, it gave me an error about not being able to read some "I-Frame" or something. Anyone know what this is? I've backed u other DVD's using DVD2SVCD and never faced any problems.

BTW, I rip the DVD to my hard disk using DVD Decryptor and then use DVD2SVCD.

    Cheers,
    CJ

  13. It doesn't make fascinating reading, but the best thing if you get any sort of error in DVD2SVCD is to post the log (or at least the relevant part of it).

As adam was saying, you should be able to find the log in the DVD2SVCD program folder, or it will be under the log tab while DVD2SVCD is running.

To say ...I get an error - something about XYZ, or something like that... is not going to get us very far!!

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

  14. theDruid,

Thanks for your reply. I certainly appreciate the help that pasting the logfie typically can provide in resolving these matters. In my case, I spared everyone my log file as there were no errors -- bbmpeg is initiated and the process is moving right along and then just stops. No error in the logfile and the program still shows as active in Windows Program list. It is truly a strange problem. So strange that I have opened a bugtracker incident to see if this is something that can be resolved at the programming level.

I will re-install the newest version and post up a log just in case someone can see something I do not. To these eyes it just all looks normal.
