My JVC s-vhs vcr and my Philips s-vhs vcr both seem to have recording problems when it comes to trying to record tv shows on Charter cable. The pictures goes to b & w for a second then it goes to color for a little bit and then flashes back to b & w for a second, etc. Is this some kind of recording deterent built into the cable box? The picture on tv is color the entire time this is happening. I even put a Sima amplifier inline and that doesn't help. I'm using all s-video cables. HELP!

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Sounds like macrovision, not normally associated with TV broadcasts, but used to prevent copying of VHS and DVD.
