  1. After a fresh install im getting a green screen in mainconcept but only when frameserving from virtualdub, tried various versions of vdub and just dix3, divx5 and xvid codecs right upto full codec packs, but still getting the same green screen.

If i install the re-install the latest xvid codec the green screen goes away, but i cant open the files in vdub then.

I had this problem last time a did a fresh install, but cant remember how i fixed it.

Anybody know what the problem is?

It could be wrong, but the advice I wav given (from the mainconcept forums) for this problem was to install very latest dirext x 9.

    Haven't had time so far.

    Ring any bells?

  3. Fixed

Turned out to be the xvid codec, tried Keopi's stable version from the tools section and to my surprise it worked!

Most of the other versions i tried give me the green screen, infact all the newer versions

These are the ones that worked:

    uManiac's 24/2/03
    Keopi's 4/10/02

    i was using nic's version.

best make a note of this for next time

Cheers for the info - least I ain't gonna d/l all that dx9 stuff

Mind you I got no need to framesere any more since I sussed out how to set the crop & scale correctly to get the right aspest ratio now!

  5. how do you do it then without frameserving?
I only use vdub to add borders to get the aspect right and some cropping!

    Please tell all

I'm using the 1.4 MainConcept MPEG Encoder (trial)
    Sooo much faster than tmpeg

Well I read this (about 3 times) today (BIG respect to DJRumpy)
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=174200
    Definatley worth a bookmark

Then the penny droped as they say, then made a excell spreadsheet and now all I do is put in the avi W+H (of the AVI/Xvid/Divx) and it calcs' the resize for every format VCD/CVD/DVD and keeps the aspect ratio of the avi (even very stupid ones like 592*256=2.31) for both PAL & NTSC to 4:3 or 16:9 TV's. Then just type numbers into MC's 'scale' bit.

And MainConcept V 1.4 will add the letterbox for u!

Only done 1 encode so far as a test and results were spot on.

I'm sure if some ones done a 'bitrate calc' online this is just as easy to do online - (I ain't got the time sorry)
