Just thougth a post made up of peoples choices of software for capturing, encoding and authoring to dvd using the topics Hardware would be a nice starting point for some people (inc me). Nothing real technical just the basics of your setup and how you like the results. Not sure if this has been done before in this manner and im sure if it has there have been updates to many peoples processes. I messed around briefly with the included software but havent had alot of time due to power outage from Hurricane Isabel. TIA. BTW I intended to try and get some local business converting home movies to dvd, and I am using the 1394 but since the 2 are similar i included both. I have used CCE and Sonic Scenarist is the past backing up some of my favorite movies and making copies of my childrens dvds for their protection heh. Tom

I use a ADVC-100 to convert VHS to DVD. I use WinDV for tranfering the DV stream to my HD because it has a preview feature. I encode with TMPGEnc Plus and author with TMPGEnc Author. Easy, fast.
