  1. Hi everyone,

First of all this is a great forum and I have learned a lot form the guides here and reading the posts in the areas that I need to learn.

I have captured some movies from Sat with my ATI AIW 9000 in dvd format and burned them to -r or -rw with menus and sound using dvd movie factory2.

Now, this is fine but most of the movies I have done are 1 hour and 30 mins to 1 hour and 45 mins. What I would like to do is lower the video bit rate to fit 2 movies on a -r keeping the 720X480 dvd format.

At the moment I am attempting this but I was wondering what the best compression settings are to get aprox 3hrs 15 mins of video and audio on a disc??

The project that my other machine is rendering right now using Movie Factory2 is 720X480 @29.97 NTSC 3000 kbs max variable bit rate with MPG audio. I hope I got all this right, as I said above I am new to this LOL.

I assume there is a lot of trial and error involved to get the desired record time with decent quality but, I am wondering what settings others use to create similar dvds from sat captures?

    Thanks
    Jamie

    If I were you, I would do a test capture at 352 x 480
and around 3000kbps and see if the quality looks oK to you.

3.5 hours is pushing it and 352 will help lots at low rates.

If you know how long the movies are you can calculate what bitrate
to use with one of the calculators. ....and if you go over a little
you can use DVDShrink to fix it easily
