My panasonic SA-PM08 dvd player only plays riteks - it hates everything else! They just glitch...

Anyway at a pc market, I asked for my trusty ritek disks and I got handed a pack I've not seen before - O1NE's - sliver top, 4x ver2..
He told me they are good and riteks...

I burn my first movie and my player came up 'Read Error' - after 3 try's it started playing with the worst glitching I've ever seen.. I checked in DVDDecrypter and it said the disks were LEADDATA01 were it would normaly say ritek...
After checking the reviews they all say this disk is great, and the O1NE web site says the dye is ritek... please can someone explain... Thanks

Here's your solution--buy another dvd player. They are almost at giveaway prices these days.

I agree with Boffo. Try the cheapo Chinese DVD (i.e. Apex, Norcent). They can almost play everything and they are only in the $50 range. Amazon.com sell the Norcent DP-302V for only 49.99 + S&H and with a $10 rebate, it's down to $39.99 + S&H.

This is a follow-up on my last post... Just check the Amazon.com web page, the Norcent DP-302V qualifies for free S&H, and so I guess the bottom line price including the rebate is $39.99. That's cheaper than a 50-pack of DVD.

Return the media (you got screwed) but it is time to get a new DVD player. I personally really like my Cyberhome 500 (but then I rent/own a lot of PAL and non region 1 discs).

There are a ton of 'cheap' players out there that play almost anything. That's because they are really PC DVD-ROM drives with an external case. So they'll play DVDR, VCD, SVCD, CVD, minDVD, MP3, JPG, etc. Hell a few will even play raw MPEG1 or MPEG2 video just dumped on media.

I agree - get a new player.

I was in the same situation a few weeks ago. I had an LG player which would quite often skip on DVDRs (regardless of brand). I tried burning at 4x, 2x, 1x, but no difference.

Eventually I went out and bought a new Pioneer DV-466 player, which even had a "DVD-RW" logo on it, and it plays everything the LG wouldn't.

The peace of mind is definitely worth the money I paid for it!

hummm, a new dvd player is not an option. The panasonic cost me about 500 pounds when I got it new, it includes the 5.1 speakers which sit perfecly on my fire-place. The sound is amazin.... Anyway the disks have great trouble playing in my Dansai, which is meant to play everything.
They also won't play in 2 DVDRom drivers in my 2nd pc... I'll just stick to ritek's...

I'm more confused than upset as to the great reviews this disk has got...

My Sony is very picky about media too - Ritek is its favorite as well.

However, saying that, the following work very well too... it might be worth you trying these if you haven't already.

Nan-ya
e-Proformance (Pro-disc)
Datawrite Classic (with the fake TDK codes, not the "new" lot)
TDK (real)

Places like http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk and do sample packs for not a lot of cash which might offer you a few unexpected surprises !

My Norcent DP300 does
Heck why make a VCD when I can dump a Mpeg1 file right to CD and play it just fine
I also dumped a Mpeg2 to DVD and it played fine till it hit a file size limit it looked like then stopped. But a full disk of 1gig and maybe 2gig mpeg2 files plays em all.

You should print the disk info screen and take it with you and get a refund!
If you were told those were riteks, you bought them as riteks, and you have the printed proof they are LEADDATA01 and NOT ritek, you should not have much problem getting either your money back or real riteks!
If they give you any arguements I would never shop there again, but if they make it good I might condsider it possibly an honest mistake.
If they say well the dye is ritek, tell em so what the disks are not!
And they don't work, but riteks do!
