  1. I'm extracting non-consecutive chapters from non-encrypted DVDs with OSEx and trying to import them into DVDSP 1.5. The video tracks work fine but the audio (AC3s) are seen as unvalid file types, although often the first audio track from the dvd works. The rest don't.

I'm extracting "elemental streams" with OSEx and I've fiddled with all the options but nothing works. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or how I can further convert or repair the audio files to anything I can use in DVDSP?

  2. There's a workaround involving opening the AC3 file in HexEdit and deleting some data at the begining of the file. Search file for the first "0b 77" and delete everything before it and re-save.

while the hex editor trick may work, it can be risky. What is hte exact error message you are getting? That would be helpful.

    Let me know.

  4. Rip DVD to VOBs with OSEx...Then try this app:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20867
    or
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12715

Under Tools menu choose "Demultiplex VOB with AC3 sound"..

    Hope it will help...

  5. The error message I get in DVDSP is simply "invalid file type." I tried converting the file to MP2 with ffmpegx and got an error saying "The 'theCommand' is not defined (-2753)". Not sure what that means. For now, I've managed a work around by converting the AC3s with bd4go to AIFFs and then converting back to Ac3s with DVDSP's APack. A bit time consuming and the resulting AC3 is quite a bit bigger than the original. But at least these file are accepted by DVDSP.

Tried downloading MPEG2Works but the VersionTracker link seems to be broken.

    Thanks for the help.

When you rip using this method, 0Sex will "corrupt" the AC3 audio for the chapters after chapter 1. When it's chopping the disc into chapters, it cuts AC3 audio in the middle of a frame. If your AC3 tracks have a broken frame at the beginning of the file, DVD Studio Pro 1.5 will reject the file. The only way around this is to not use 0Sex. If you still have access to OS 9 (full, not Classic from within OS X), use DVD Extractor 0.9 to rip your chapters. There may be ways in OS X to fix those broken frames, but I can't remember.
