I am new to ripping, and have been using Smartripper and DVD Decrypter. I noticed that some vobs remain locked, causing errors in DVD Decrypter, and Smartripper prompts me to play the DVD with a software player to unlock it. Using Power DVD works sometimes, but not always. I bought the original DVD's and the DVD drive in the US, so I didn't think the region lock was an issue. What's going on, and how can I fix it?

  2. Have a look at AnyDVD from Slysoft (trial copy)

You can then forget about SmartRipper & DVD Decrypter.

  3. As far as I understand it, region code has nothing to do with your problem.

The lock you're encountering is the copy protection system (e.g. CSS), rather than the region code - the latter tries to limit the distribution of discs to different geographical regions, rather than actually copy-protecting the disc.

I've always found SmartRipper can 'unlock' the disc eventually - I often use WinDVD rather than PowerDVD - have you tried this?

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

  5. I've used smartripper for about a year and then switched to DVD decrypter a few weeks ago. I can't say that I like one better than the other when it comes to ripping, but I did have to always play the dvd in my reader for a minute or so before smartripper could do it's magic.

I like DVD decrypter because of the ISO read / write feature.
