I have used both linksys and D-link wireless and wired network gear. I can answer some of those questions. And others have used similar too.

    So ask away

Your title misled me. I was going to suggest a site biased toward that product if you wanted a "good" review.

A site such as this will "thumbs down " trash as quickly as it will "thumbs up " a good product.

I don't think you will have any problem with any of the wireless stuff.

Personally, I would get a PCI version of the wireless reciever than a USB, if you have a free slot. If you also have a laptop, then I would get a PCMCIA(?) card and reciever, so I could use either/or.

    Cheers,

    George

  4. actually i want a site something like cnet , in which it rates all electronics AND let people write their own personal views.... i like hearing peoples views because they are gonna tell you whats really wrong with a product without any bias

As far as the wireless networking stuff, what would you like to know. I'll give pros and cons for anything I have used.

Linksys Wireless 4 port router. Have one, it has some trouble with locking up. Normally only locks when a 2.4Ghz telephone is used nearby. It now sits in a box.

Linksys wired 4 port router BEFSR41. The first home unit from linksys. I bought it years ago, has rarely been turned off. Works great. Survived a house fire that killed many other devices from the smoke. Best $250 I spent in many years (yes it was $250 when I bought it long ago!).

Linksys wired PCI cards LNE-100TX, very solid card! Recommended for the $15 it will cost you when on sale.

    D-link wireless
DI-614+ Works OK, but sometimes forgets its firmware and goes back to the factory default when it was new. Also locks when a 2.4Ghz phone is used nearby. Replaced the phone now works pretty well.

DWL-520+(?) PCI card for wireless.... Nothing but problems with low signal. Replaced with a Linksys USB wireless adaptor (which works great! I have 2 of those)

DWL-650+ PCMCIA wireless card. Works pretty good but.... There is a design flaw that may make it stop working. Near the connector some PCM slots will "crush" the top and bottom of the card together. This will wear through the paper tape that D-link used to insulate the case halves (they are metal). Solution, I opened the card (very tricky) and put some plastic from a blister pack package on the top and bottom of the covers. Solved that problem. 2 of these, only one has shown the problem. When this was told to D-link they said, Oh... thank you ( in disbelief that I actually figured out how to open it, and then fix it).

DWL-914AP+ BIG piece of garbage. Will not work like a repeater for more than a few days at a time. Works poorly as a wireless bridge, and poorly as a client device. Haven't tried it as an access point yet. Forgets its firmware and will not boot up. Lives in it's box until I have a chance to look at it.

D-link support... only slightly better than Dazzle You will have to solve your own problems.

Linksys support ---- I have no idea... never needed or wanted to contact them. Except for the wireless router which was out of warranty, and may have just been the phone interfering.
