  1. I am looking for a freeware that can play a vcd and that will show its menu.

I've tried all kinds of freeware and none of the ones I've found can show the menu. They just play the first track.

After searching the web for a couple of weeks, I'm about to give up. Please help.

  2. Try some of the software DVD players. The thing is VCD/CVD/SVCD do not support 'true' menus. What you are really seeing is just another MPEG video (motion or still) that happens to look like a menu, with PBC settings for certain buttons (0-9, << >>, stop and play). So it sort of acts like a menu.

Because it's really just another track that's how WMP and most other players handle it. You need a software player that treats like a VCD not just MPEG1 encoded video. IIRC PowerDVD or WinDVD could do this.

I know both PowerDVD and WinDVD, and the DO play the vcd menu, but they are NOT freeware. I am looking for a freeware player that I can burn on my vcd and pass on to other people.

  4. A nice simple freeware VCD player is: I-ON I-Video Player

This used to be in the old Tools section I think, but doesn't seem to be there any more - I'll try submitting it as a new tool.

I think it just uses the native codecs (from WMP etc..), but as far as I remember, it supports menus etc..

    cheers,
