  1. Hi I have a avi file approx 50 minutes that I want to convert into VCD so I can watch it on a standalone DVD Player. I used Nero 5.5 and just dragged the file to the VCD wizard and worked fine but the problem is the VCD came out upside down. Is there ways I can fix this ? In addition I was gonna use TMPGE to re-encode into MPEG and then burn it but it requires 2 CD. Can someone tell me how come it was possible for Nero to fit everything on 1 CD but it required TMPGE 2 cds ? And are there any other good alternative solution so I can burn it to 1 VCD having it come out the right way. Thanks.

It should not require 2 cd's if you use TMPGEnc to encode it. Are you sure you are using the right template? You should be selecting VCD and not SVCD - you should be able to put ~80 Min. on a CD in VCD format, and since you only have 50 Min. this should be easy to fit. What is the filesize when you finish encoding it with TMPGEnc? What is the orginal file size?

Some codec flips the video during the reencoding. 50 min should fit a CD as VCD no problem.
This is the fundamental problem with this kind of one click solutions - you are unaware of any problems that occur during the process, until you pop the CD into the player.
In the case of Nero, the mpeg1 encoder is pretty low quality too, so I'd suggest going the full circle of (VirtualDub->)TMPGEnc->VCDEasy(->Nero, if necessary)

I basically just followed the wizard setup. I picked NTSC VCD, opened the source and audio file, didnt add any filters, and the result was estimated size of 1657.49 MB ! For some reason the movie info says 165 mins and 42 sec. My original file was only 55min and it's 339MB.

  5. . Thanks for the help guys I found the problem. I tried previewing the file and found out that for some reason when the video ended it kept going on at the same frame for an extraordinary amount of time. That was why the file was so long. I guess it was encoded badly.

Wow, I guess it was ripped/encoded badly! You'll have to use an editor to cut out all the extra frames. Glad we could help out!
