  1. Hi. Will start from begining... i had a .avi file ready to turn it into SVCD... i loaded it into Nero 5.x.x nad after encoding for few hours it came out fine!
Now i used 80min CD and .avi file was about 350megs which when converted to SVCD became about 650megs.
Now i have installed Nero 6 recently and tryed exactly same thing... to burn this same .avi file to SVCD format, loaded it up and went to bed expecting to have a nice new SVCD in the morning... when i came down to check the result in the morning the CD was out, and error message on the screen: something like " Insert blank CD this CD has not enough space" Whats going on? When I drag and drop the .avi file into SVCD menu in the begining of the process on the bottom it tells me how big the CD will be and it told me about 650megs... but now when i cancelled this error message and Nero took me back to set-up screen i see this bar much more than 650 megs! Whats going on? Any one had same thing happen? Help!
May be this new version 6 doing things differently?

    Yep,

Something is up with Nero 6.

I have noticed on DVDs. CDs and HD-BURN CDs (I have a Optorite which uses that wonderful HD-BURN option) that Nero seems to burn less than it used to.
I will get the yellow bar showing that I am within range, but, Nero will tell me that I need media with more space.

Apparently, CDs go to 7000MB only, DVDs to 4700, HD-BURN - 1400 MB.

I have been using B's recorder Gold 5 which takes me to the recording limits that Nero 5 used to.

I just was on Ahead software's site and looked at their acknowledged set of problems.

What they say to do when you are told that you media is not large enough is remove Nero and reinstall it.

I have sone that once alread and used software I got from Ahead software which first gets rid of all traces of Nero. It did help several problems I was having, but not this one.

  7. The best advise I could give you would be, Don't use nero to encode. Use TMPGEnc (a much, much, much better encoder than Nero), you can then use Nero to author and burn if you wish.

I agree about not usiing Nero to encode, but I was talking about using it to burn.

I use Main Concept to encode, used to use TMPGenc , but really all of the "speacilized" encoding products are a lot better than Nero to encode.

For example. I use Winrar to create backups for me, great product, it will compress and create backup sets that get broken done in exactly 1 CD pieces. They will be someting like 716MBs. I go to Nero 6 and you can see the yello line going right to the red mark. I put in the CD and I'm told that I should put in larger media.

I go to another product, B's Record Gold and it takes it fine. I never had this happen iwth Nero 5.

This is a known bug in Nero 6.0.15 and the latest 5.5 release (5.5.10.50). Supposedly it will be fixed in the next release at the end of September. If you need it sooner, e-mail tech support and they'll send you a patch.

Here is the relevant thread on the topic, from CDFreaks:

  11. Funny thing is that this problem only occurs if the burn is slightly below the burning limit. If you add another file and have overburning activated the overburning window pops up and you can continue as usual.
My recommendation is that you add another "dummy" file to get passed the troubled disc size and make slightly overburned disks until the fix emerges.

Keep in mind that Nero 5.5.10.50 has the same problem. Stick with version .42 or use Ahead's patch for .50 to fix it.
