  1. I'm just getting started so my question may be very basic but I can't get a captured avi file to play properly. I captured with a Canopus ADVC 100 with Scenalizer. I've tried playback on Virtualdub, Arcsoft Showbiz, Power DVD, Windows Media Player and Video Vegas demo and it's extremly jerky and starts and stops. I beleive I have all the necessary codecs including Gordion Knot codec pack. When I check the file with GSpot it says Canopus DV codec is not installed but in fact it is. Any suggestion? Thanks

  3. Captured from VCR. My goal is pretty standard. Capture fron video tape, edit out commercials, author to DVD. So far I have just done a small test capture to test things out before commiting a lot of hard drive space and time.

The sloppy sync timing from VCRs apparently irritates the hell
out of lots of capture systems. I don't do it much but it works for me
    with an ATI card

  5. Thanks FOO, I mentioned VCR because that's my goal but I had previouly done a test capture just from the TV signal and had the same result.

Everybody sez the Canopus is the best thing since sliced bread so
I dunno. I think it's hard to have a messed up DV transfer without
    obvious error reports.
    I'd reccomend
    1. Check Canopus settings
    2. Capture with another app. DVIO, VS7, MF2 etc

  7. Just a suggestion ,because I've never tried a DV codec capture, but it might be that there is nothing wrong with the file just too much information (uncompressed) for a player to handle. I know I get the same results as you if I try to play back some huffy recorded avi's without some sort of conversion to mpeg1/2 or xvid first.

So maybe just converting it (or a sample of it) to another format might overcome the playback glitches

Could be well wide of the mark though!

That is a possibility, even though you've tried millions pf players.

Maybe you have slow video. DV is 3.5 Mbytes / sec.
    reduce your video color depth
better yet maybe the DV decoder is slow. that's common to all the players.

    Get the Panasonic DV codec..

Open the file in Vdub and step through the pictures instead of playing them.
in vdub set the frame rate lower - say 20 fps and play it.
