    Perhaps someone knows about this.

I was previously using TMPG Plus 2.53 to encode an anime series (avi files). At the current settings (DVD template, CBR, 4000 kbps), it took appx 1 hr per episode and gave a file size of appx 728MB.

Ok, I thought, it's been a while and why not upgrade to TMPG Plus 2.520? (The current one.) Ok, so I purchase it and stupidly erase my TMPG Plus 2.53 because I've got the newer one now.

I now try the same template, but CBR is now set at 3300 kbps. Well, it now takes 3 hrs to encode a single episode and the file sizes are about 1900 MB.

Anyone have an idea what's going on?

You just have to hit "expert" or whatever and check all the settings.
You could also do it without the Wizard and set it yourself.

are you sure your episodes are constant length ?

    I never use the Wizard.

The settings from all Tabs are kept the same as previous. The file sizes and times are all the same length.

    It's very strange.

I think it's time to start analyzing all the files.

    Bitrate viewer -- DVD2AVI .. etc

All the files are the same: bitrate, fps, resolution, etc.

I've tried encoding them in MCE 1.4 and it gives the smaller file sizes (and much faster times).

I'm trying to get a hold of an old TMPG Plus 2.53 or 2.54 and try a direct comparison again.

If not... well, using MCE 1.4 isn't the worst thing in the world!
