I finally found that my goofy problem of detecting a Roxio SoftSCSI host adapter was related to ASPI issues. After I uninstalled Nero it went away. Maybe because Nero was using its own with what was installed with an Adaptec installer. I am now trying to figure out what version of ASPI to run, or if it really needs to be installed at all. What little I have read is that 4.6 is the preferred and stable version from Adaptec, but I cannot find it. There current installer wants to install ASPI32.sys ver 4.7 and WINASPI32.dll 4.71.2 while leaving WOWPOST.exe 4.6 (1021) and WINASPI.dll 4.6 (1021) at this version. Can someone tell me if APSI is needed for the likes of Disc Juggler, Alcohol, Ulead DVD Movie Factory? I know Nero layers in its own version, and I think this is what was screwing me up.
BTW, this has to be the greatest place I have found for info. Thanks to all............![]()

If you think you're having Aspi trouble get the Aspi Checker :
http://radified.com/Files/aspi_chk.exe
and the right Aspi Layer (newer versions are buggy):
http://www.doom9.org/software.htm#supportutils , look for:
"ForceAspi 1.7"
The Aspi problems are covered on:
http://aspi.radified.com
