  1. Hi everyone.
I have been trying out TMPGEnc Dvd autor program, and I managed to get a DVD of home movies which has audio when played on my personal DVD player (Daewoo N3400) but other family members could not get any audio when watching it on their DVD players. Hitting the "language" button on their remote did not help, and still, no audio. One firend said he heard a faint audio in the background, but that's about it.

    any suggestions would be appreciated

    thanks so much

Is the audio MP3? It's not DVD spec but it works OK on some players and not on others.

  3. Are they using AV receivers on their setup or using the TVs stereo output ? I am in the process of producing home DVDs with AC3 output via my AV setup. See my thread in the beginnners forum for a proposed process.

  4. I am not sure what the audio format is. I captured the video with the audio using Avermadia's TV Studio card. The original files were Mpeg files, which TPMGEnc converted to VOB files.

    I hope this helps

thanks so much for all responses

  5. It's possible that your families DVD players don't support MP2 audio(compressed) while yours does, make a disk using LPCM audio(uncompressed). The only drawback to LPCM is the size it takes up nearly a third of a DVD.

  6. Here's what you do.

    I. Demux the original MPEG file

MPEG files are multiplex files. That is they contain several elementary streams mixed together into one file. These streams can include: video (m2v) audio (mp2) and sometime subtitles.

D/load TMPGenc (its freeware/trailware). Click on "File | MPEG tools" then choose simple demux. Select your MPEG file and hit run. This will create two files. A m2v (video) and mp2 (audio) file.

II. Convert MP2 audio to AC3

The NTSC (US, Canada and Japan) DVD standard calls for either AC3 (compressed) or PCM (uncompressed) audio. While most players can play mp2 audio, it's not part of the standard and does some can not. Here's how you convert:

III. Re-author the DVD with original m2v and newly encoded AC3 stream

You should be able to load the elementary streams in TMPG Author and re-author the DVD.
