  1. Is there an easy way to convert vob into mpeg2 without reencoding and loosing quality?

I have some material recorded on a standalone that I want to share on DC but most hubs don't allow vob. I also want to cut togheter material from several discs into one "party disc" (motorsport, crashes and the like)

Since my elecard mpeg2 player plays the vobs directly I assume that It's really an mpeg2 in disguise like dat files are mpeg1 files with index markings or am I totally wrong here?

  2. VOB video is MPEG-2 with a special header.
Use VOBEDIT and select Demux all video and audio streams then you can import to video editing software. If you have Ulead MovieFactory 2,VideoStudio 7 or MediaStudio you can import VOB's.

  3. I did so and ticked the following boxes Demux all video streams, Demux all audio streams, demux all subp streams. All other I left as it was since i didn't know what they did(newbie)

Now i got an m2v file of approx 4 Gb size and an AC3 file which is about 220 Mb.

What now, am i Supposed to use tmpgenc and the ac3 as audio source, but thats reencoding right? I just want an mpeg2 with the same charateristics, bitrate etc as the original vob.

No, now you want to REmux the video and audio back together to produce your mpg. Not the same as re-encoding.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

  5. I did so and it worked, however after using tmpgenc to split the file in two the sound was gone. Obviously I'm doing something wrong here...
