  1. I am not sure if this is in the right place but maybe someone knows the answer.

I have made a couple of back up dvd's. When I put them in my Dansai dvd player which has so far played everything, I get disc error. If I put them in my daughter's Philips DVD Player they are fine. If I put them in a Philips recordable dvd player it says disc error. I have used different media to burn it to but it makes no difference.

Could it be something to do with the backup procedure. Am I leaving something out.

I am using Smart Ripper, DVD2Avi, & TMPgenc with Nero or Record Max to burn.

    Any suggestions please?

Tell us where the authoring step is.
are you using TMPGenc DVDAuthor or TMPGenc encoder ?
Is Nero doing the Authoring ?

You may be writing a MPEG2 file to a DVD. and the Phillips is the only
    one that can play mpegs

The DVD2AVI way is the old way. It is MUCH easier and faster now.

    Get DVD Shrink.
Rip the ENTIRE DVD to a folder on your hard disk.
run Shrink . It will tell you if the movie is too big and fix it if so.
and write another set of files out. there is an easy help for Shrink

Then use RecordMax to burn the output folder as data. This will work

  3. I am using TMPgenc DVD Author.

Will DVD Shrink rip the movie? Sorry I am new to this, previously I had a cd writer.

    Thanks

Shrink will rip the movie. but everyone uses DVDDecryptor.
the reason is that Shrink has to randomly access the movie
while working and that's much faster on the hard drive.

  5. Whic would you suggest. I have downloaded so many programmes and looked at so many guides, I am totally confused but it is probably so easy.

It is easy. there are 3 steps and you have all the stuff.

    1. Rip the ENTIRE DVD with Smartripper or whatever to a folder

    2. run Shrink set it to automatic compression and output to a folder
    named VIDEO_TS takes 15 20 min

it is good to play the VIDEO_TS folder with WinDVD here to check it

    3. Fire up Record Now and burn the VIDEO_TS folder as Data

  7. Do I need to use Smart Ripper or can I just use Shrink.

That is what I am in the process of doing now. Will it not work if I just use Shrink and then burn it.

There are lots more issues in general with that, but
if that weren't the case it would get boring right ?

  11. That's true but maybe there is an easy guide for that one too somewhere.

    Thanks again for your help.
